Haven't you seen the KPMG one-day sessions going for KSH69,990+VAT? That's about KSH280k+VAT= KSh325k in four days.

Training isn't cheap.

Also, our very own Sunny Bindra charges companies Sh500k for a one-day talk...

Am interested in the PMP course, or other equivalents. Shida is that some of these 'courses' will be dismissed as seminars by HR dept;

Thats what they are. Ask the presenters to give you a list of successful projects that they have managed and you will be shocked that most have no real experiences.

Do you remember BPR? PMP is todays con word.

Mungaits,

Enda hapa http://www.cfpm.co.ke/

But as Kingfisher has advised, Project Management can only be mastered by....eeeh...MANAGING A PROJECT!

PMP - also need to be a PM to get the certification as hours need to be accredited. As @Wodu Wakiri has said, best thing is to MANAGE A PROJECT. There's the CAPM that can be a good start though

such are trainning and not courses and are meant for people already with qualifications. that is why they take short time because it is 'known' that you have prior knowledge of the subject matter.

@ mungaits, there is a company called training solutions which organises for a 4 day project management training by ESI international after which you sit an exam and you are awarded a certificate...however its a training not a course.

I have gone through the course and I am a PMP and PMI member. I went through it by self study, however, I have been a practicing PM for years so it was a bit easier for me (not easy).

Two aspects, to qualify for the actual examination (about $600) on last check, you have to apply and exhibit that you have the necessary prior PM experience. It is cheaper to first join PMI then pay for the exam, else you are looking at about an extra $300

It is a very useful tool in getting jobs or contracts especially when you are dealing with North American companies since it’s is more or less developed and tailored in their background. I have never regretted doing the course and it is very useful. As for the people who say it is but just a con word(?), well, it is a rigorous course and…well…does bring money to the bank.

On the alternatives, for the European market, they have the PRINCE2 course which I think you can ask the British council about, I have done that too but….I personally prefer the PMP. There is an accredited PMI Chapter institution to carry out PMI training in Kenya, although they have not been active in the PMI channels for the last couple of years.

Hi,
For PMP training, you could check out for a class beginning on Sept 1 2011 at www.iapm.co.ke. Institute started April 2010 and has already produced a PMP.
A training session has a max of 10pax
Hope this helps

Is the $1500 inclusive of taxes, PMI registration and PMP Examination Fees?

Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.
