It is advisable to stick to the highly capitalized old reliables. This is because if you miss the capital gains you will not miss the good dividend yield.

Pick within the NSE-20. Some of them includes:-

NMG
Safcom
KCB
BBK
SCB
JUB
EABL
KPLC
KK

Take your time to arrive at the best bargain price because the trend of things in terms of NSE 20 shares index will be looking down or remain flat (to early 2011 level) in the near term (Up to 2012 elections)

Happy investing.

young, hope you've had a nice day so far. Allow me to make a few comments

If you believe that the NSE is in a 'bear' mood, and indeed will be in such a mood until elections, why not get out of the market altogether?

Why Stay in the market only for dividends and yet you feel that your stock will depreciate by much more than that?

I note that you are highly diversified i.e real estate, mutual funds, stocks, etc. Maybe you should consider T-Bills

Nice pick. I'd confine myself to KKK... The only one remaining in my portfolio and which I will soon be wooing is KPLC

Thanks for your thoughts and advise. Be aware that I am satisfied with the dividends, so I do not see the need to sell. Rather I intend to buy more much later as the expected further dip of the market.

To the glory of GOD, the dividend income I get from NSE is in 6 digits figures. This was possible since I started investing gradually since 2004, so it is not something I did in a year or two.

For a non resident foreigner, it is not so easy to invest in T-bills, I leave that to dear Kenyans and East African's.

Thanks. I do read your blog @ kenyainvesting.blogspot.com

Kengen from your analysis for me is a stock of the future. It is in my wish list. I intend to look at it later in 2013 and if it meets my requirement I will bring it in and drop one of the counters.

The NSE20 losing streak entered its 6th day, the bourse shed 52 points or 1.35% to close at 3813, Turnover was Sh311M, Market Cap stood at Sh902B. The Shilling was a little bit stronger against the USD, last time i checked it was trading at 90.10 against the green buck. The main story of the day was a shocking move by the CBK who today cut their overnight landing rate to 6.25% from 8%, the CBK is sending a lot of mixed messages into the market. The buzz word is inflation somebody whistle that into the Governors ear.

@Young, congrats my bro, nice dividend package indeed. Why Bamburi and not say ARM? Any particular reason?

Beginning to believe the guy is deaf and blind, with CBK's reversal of position (probably with banks raising interest rates) the shilling continues to lose all its recent gains against the dollar... d'oh!

@jawz1

If you close your eyes about capital appreation and you will realise that BAMB has a higher dividend yield than ARM. ARM at ksh 185 returned a paltry ksh 1.50 while BAMB returned Ksh 7.00 on 175 share price.

I have been with ARM from inception so what I did early this year was to offload my ARM after a long ride and position in BAMB cum dividend.

This is strictly my strategy as I am in your market principally for dividend and stritly on blue chips.

I believe the CBK is finally actively engaged in liquidity management and by extension controlling demand driven (by money) inflation. CBK is in a position to manage this on a day to day basis as banks are mandated to file their positions daily with the CBK. This is a good move. Note that CBK is only in control of monetary policy and is not a farmer, oracle, oil-producer or rain-maker.

I think lovely was just saying that the downturn has truly began and preaching on what to buy or not to buy during this time has started. lovely, can you confirm this?
