i recently engaged the services of a mkokoteni and was suprised how much money the OWNERS make apparently one guy owns 100 plus handcarts located around the market he hires them out at 50bob per trip or 200bob per day to the handcart pullers nearly all of them had been hired that morning no taxes no parking no maintance no labour seems to be a very profitable venture

Some businesses have a clear progression path in order to succced in them. In this case u need to be a handcart puller and then progress to be an owner. Imagine starting this biz and one morning all your carts are hired ( being new and more attractive) and never returned coz the pushers know u are new!

So on point @Gathige. Go to the market as a newbie and you will wonder why you ever bothered. Many of these businesses are run by cartels like you cannot believe.

@gathige the unstructured format of running the business plus the ruffians who hire the handcarts makes it undesirable for one to venture but from the info i got its a very profitable business despite the informal manner it operates just look near timberyards hardwares furniture sellers and around offloading zones for fresh produce and count the mkokotenis parked around
