My mom was referred to this ‘gymn’ by her friend & she’s been attending religiously for the last 2 months. She is very hopeful that the thermal massager will be the cure for her long painful hip-joint problem

The guys call themselves ceragem and uses massage tools on the ailing part of the body. She attends three of them in a day spending 40 minutes on each. Though the pain hasn’t really disappeared, she says she feels more relaxed and calmer after each therapy session & the doctors there tells her its only a matter of time before she completely feels better and younger. She also tells me there are so many people using the service and they have real life testimonies of their healing.

The massager is only 88k & I could buy it for her if am sure it will work and end her trauma. I have already spent over 200k in the major hospitals/physiotherapists/specialists/Orthopedics but nothing seems to work, not forgetting the many drugs she has taken, X-Rays/Scans and MRI. (My next action was to get help from India)

Am seeking advice if any of you may have experience with this ceragem stuff….talk to me

Am also thinking of it as a lucrative business idea in my rural home (if you buy the apparatus & charge people to use it), but I don’t know how to go about it…

@Mwende, I've always wondered the uptake of these services, I don't see the place crowded as expected...but I hope wazuans can give more insight. It was also featured on one of the TV channels sometime back.....

Of course, anyone will feel relaxed after a massage!!

Don't just rush there without proper medical advive. You need to consult a doctor who specialises in geriatric medicine. Try Dr. P. W. Kamau at Upper Hill Medical Centre [tel: 020-342 893].

If the problem needs physiotherapy, he will recommend one; but don't just go a massage palour that pretends to be a medical clinic.

I have a bad back and have tried ceragem therapy. It was very helpful but I just got this feeling it wasn't very medically real.

Its nice and warm and the rocks massage your back, but there was no real healing, just relief.

@KulaRaha, @Mwende;

Read this info from the Ceragem website: http://www.ceragem.com/ceragem_rh.asp

"CERAGEM Effectiveness

Relieve stress
Relieve muscle pain
Relieve muscle stiffness and eases aches associated with arthritis
Improve blood circulation"

It will not cure!! It will only "relieve" pain...for some time; just like any other good massage!

Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

@mukiha, Its just that we've all those options for the past 2yrs , even seen a Dr.Biyakika in Upper hill med centre (I hear he's one of the best ortho) but we got expe scans and drugs...no cure

My take is to seek treatment in India but she want to try ceragem for 6 months to 1yr. I understand her frustrations with medicines & the consultations all over Nairobi

BTW: These ceragem therapies are FREE of charge in nairobi

Oh; if they are free, then what are you waiting for. Take her there as you lay down plans for the next course of treatment.

An ordinary ortho may not help. I recommend you visit P. W. Kamau and go with the recent scans that you have. He has a way of figuring out ailments of the aged. And if it not curable, he will tell you straight. No need going to India for a condition that comes with age and cannot be cured.

Mwende, from what you say, your mum could be having either Rheumatoid arthritis or oesteo arthritis.

Has a diagnosis been done?

Take Mukihas advice, see a specialist and when you have a clear picture about what is happening, then you will know what management she needs-most of the time, conservative management relieves pain esp. if it turns out to be a long term thing, you do not want her moving from one service provider to another....

@mukiha, Who is this Kamau? Its just that we have been refered to many consulatants I have even lost count. Interesting enough is that each daktari cannot use other hospitals scans/xrays, so we keep on taking new ones (they send us to specific radiologists).

My trust has run out of kenyan doctors and treatments that we have in the market-they dont work! She too dont want to hear any of it...

@Mwende did the ceragem help your mom. I would like to buy one for my dad but am waiting to hear experience of others first.

Mukiha makes a good point. Your mum can get a massage at home with warm towels before she goes to bed and not need to waste alot of money unless she's getting a good work-out. She may eventually need to have hip surgery but before then heed advise to see a good medical doctor who can prescribe a non-addictive pain med. Additionally, buy your mum vit D and Calcium supplements (they are not drugs really) and are very good for the young and old. These supplements are also good for arthritis pain and is very good for aging bones. After you get advise from the Dr's before making any type of decision post it here so we can give you more of our two cents....Good luck to your mum.

- Check if it's osteoporosis, it usually comes after menopause, (men can also get osteoporosis) if it is, research on how to increase bone density.

- For the young, to avoid complications in the future, maintain a healthy lifestyle now.
