It depends where in Kitale....pls clarify

a) Kitale - Eld highway / Cherengany /Mois bridge.

b) Kitale - Kapenguria side.

c) Kitale / Kimilili - Saboti / Endebess side.

Prices will vary according to the location based on the above and also ethnic animosity which can be triggered anytime - just a matter of a few inciting words and of course politics.

All said for short term its better you just lease land and plant..however for long term buying is the option.

Current prices range from 150K per acre to 450K depending on proximity to tarmac, town, river, terrain, soil type and the above (a-c)

@ LNjue,

2 acres will not be a good idea if you plan to venture into commercial maize farming. For you to make meaningful profit, you need to benefit from economies of scale and mechanization. If you plan to buy 2 acres, think of other business entities like dairy farming. If you plan to plant maize for subsistence farming, then go a head.

Take the 500k,look for land around Moi's Bridge and Soy,or further inland at Ndi and you will get almost thrice the acreage you are being offered on lease.

By the way, what are the current lease rates around the area. The info i have is before PEV.
