Finally sold my last holding in the NSE

I finally sold off my last holdings in the NSE, for the first time in over 5 years I am not an investor. I have made good returns over the period and cannot complain, however I feel that with the deepening of the investment markets through entry of bond trading, and the improved access to mortgage, the stock market will not be returning as much as it used to in terms of capital growth, however, it will certainly pay handsome dividends to the long termers. When the foreigners begin to troop back and I will consider returning. I am very nostalgic because I have made very substantial gains despite the fact that my portfolio is limited by my current career. For those who are still in, I wish you the best. Talk about the worst possible timing to sell. You should have sold during a bull market!

I know all about the bull and the cow. Anyway, yes there were few tears but I started profit taking way back in November. And the last sale was actually still double my purchase price. Trust me I got no regrets on the returns or the timing of the sales. "The purpose of bureaucracy is to compensate for incompetence and lack of discipline." James Collins

@Obi, Congratulations on your exit. I wish you a good rehabilitation from this opium. However, I presume that you have been a trader not an investor. I Think Therefore I Am

Pretty sure I'll sell you my shares when you're trooping back with the foreigners The thing is to know when to quit, and yes I will probably buy some of your shares some day. But the beauty with shares is not the purchase price but rather where you see the share being in n years. @Bwenyenye, I was an investor, not a trader and the thing is I feel the cash will work better elsewhere for the time being. Inflation @ 16%, high oil prices and expected reduced harvest to me means the market may remain depressed for awhile. Correction, inflation figure is not at 16% as you say but slightly more than half of that, 9.19% as of this month! I strongly believe the inflation figure for the month of April will be slightly lower than this given some food items eg Sukuma wiki and cabbages will go down. Prices of maize flour etc will have to wait for another 3 or so months to come down assuming the rains hold.As for oil, i feel we still will be above $100 a barrel for a few more months. All the same, happy investing as you channel your funds elsewhere! @SufficientlyP

I also don't own any share. Out of need for money i sold all my stocks in January little did i know that a bear will pay us a visit. Don't wait for the Last Judgment. It happens every day. ~Albert Camus, The Fall, 1956

I don't mean to gloat, BUT WHO IS LAUGHING NOW . I had no idear it would be this bad, but my decision to quit the market now reads like the most inspired decision on this forum. I am currently looking to make a comeback and I feel like a kid in candy store, what to pick! However, not so soon, the bond market will soon scorch a few follow me investors (those who buy what nani bought) mostly pension schemes insurances and banks, the banks/insurances will then return to holding to maturity (for interest)while the pension scheme will sell and return to shares with higher EPS (mostly because of panic and knee jerk reaction). The reduced trading on bonds means people (speculators) will return to good old shares, then the bull will arise. when this happens, I don't know, but lets look to around year end when most banks/insurers start looking at the damage done by bond trading and the pension scheme trustees look to report reduced interest to members. Real estate will also let off steam when the nairobi transport is sorted, something that now looks like happening.
