Today makes my 5 years debut with NSE. I thank God for the Knowledge and the courage to invest in NSE as a retail foreign investor.

My current portfolio is made of EABL,KCB,ARM. Looking ahead I intend to diversify into Barclays,KPLC,and Kengen.

Special thanks to stockskenya for the opportunity to learn and contribute on this wondeful forum.

With Regards,

Young

How is KQ perceived in Nigeria?

Do you think Nigerian Eagle will survive?

Congrats for having had the fortitude to withstand the vicissitudes of the Kenyan market especially since early 2007. I can see you invest in solid blue chip companies with potential for growth (esp in the case of ARM). As regards your choices going forward,could you please explain your rationale regarding KenGen. Other than its current low pricing,I am not too sure what it has going for it. This is because of the heavy capital investment that is required for it to grow its revenues which will necessitate massive borrowing etc. I could say more but let's leave it at that for now.

On a different note,I would like to invest on the Nigerian Stock Market. I have been thinking this is a good time - especially on the banking stocks that survived Governor Soludo's cleanup. Given your local knowledge of the NSE would you agree?

Ladies / Gents,

Let me take your queries one at a time.

@Mzee Vitu,

In Nigeria Ethiopian Airlines is more highly rated than KQ. This is due to the crash of 2000 of Nigerian bound KQ flight from Abidjan,and crash immediately after take off in 2007 in Cameroon.

As a policy if I am going to East Africa or even Kenya,I prefer to fly across Kenya to Addis before coming to Nairobi. We have not heard of bad records from Ethiopian.

@Kamaa

I was talking about investing in NSE not stockskenya. I am vertually two and a half years with stockskenya.

@Nwanachira

My confidence in Kengen is buttressed on the fact that :-

- The worst is over in terms of drought in Kenya

- We believe in Kenya plan to diversity into Geothermal energy rather than traditional hydro electric energy.

_ Bond is better than IPO as there is no share dilution.

- The rate of expansion and demand for electricity will bring sufficient profit to outweigh bond repayment on the long term.

- With a low of 9 Bob and a high of 18 bob,kengen is close to the bottom.

@mv ufansi

A stock broking firm I will recommend to use is the one I use Afrinvest West Africa Ltd.

www.afrinvestwa.com.

I know they have foreign investors and Nigerian investors in diaspora.

I recommend you talk to them and come to Nigeria yourself to invest. Since Nigerian is reputed to be full of con men,it is better you handle it directly yourself.

This the usual thing in African market. Be aware I had to travel to Nairobi to invest for the first time in Winsor based Faida Securities (Now Faida Investment Bank).

This is the best time to invest as the index is at its lowest ebb. In the banking sector I recomend (i) First Bank Nigeria Ltd Nigerian equivalent of KCB

(ii) Guaranty Trust Bank

@young; Thank you for the reality check regarding KQ; Two crashes in one decade; Goes to show how badly we are doing; But it is interesting to note that ethiopian also had two crashes; One in 1988 (bird strike) and another in 1996 (hijacked).

@ young - Asante/Thanks.

Ethiopian has had 2 crashes but under different circumstances. I can understand the reluctance since both KQ's crashes were in the West African region.

Unfortunately,the crash report for Douala (2007) has not been released by Cameroon. This question was asked at the AGM & KQ's management said that their hands were tied since the report's responsibility lies in the hands of the country where the crash happened.
