I really need your help. I bought a Super E Plus education cover from Britak at the end of 2009 but I would like to cancel it. I have been paying the premiums but I haven't been receiving the statements. E-mails are ignored and upon visiting their website, am welcomed by post after post of complains of poor customer service in terms of delayed payment of claims and bonuses.

I was informed that after 4yrs I can safely cancel the policy and get a refund of all monies accruing but am not sure I want to wait that long. Anyone know of a way to cancel and get my money back?

Has anyone else bought this cover? What has been your experience?

Thanks.

Rescinding(cancelling) the contract will only allow you to get a portion of the premiums you had paid and NEVER the full amount - hard to belive but its true. Insurance companies will always consider costs incurred e.g. admin costs etc when the policy was in force and will deduct some percentage on the premiums paid and what you get is very meagre because of cancellation before maturity period.I suggest you bite the bullet and pay the premiums upto maturity time then after getting the benefits, cancel the policy. What is the period taken out?

Do you want to cancel just bcz you have no statements coz if thats the case yopu ncan visit any britak branch and be sure with your ID no or policy no. you will be given your account status if you have no problems with the premiums please keep paying coz there is the security element and your bonus chqs will come automatically without claiming as long as premiums are up to date this is from experience.

WHY?

WHY?

WHY?

Would you sign a contract you haven't read?

I can't pop into their offices. I can only request via e-mail and they do not respond. I want to cancel because I think the take out period is too long. Thanks for the encouragement.

why you cant pop into their offices me dont understand but if you meet any of their sales force thats also possible but advice for future the take out period cannot be too long assuming the seller explained to you and you understood if you quit now yet you accepted the policy you loose everything insurance has its good side but many of us crucify them for our negligence.

Thanks alot @Mgeni Mpya & @karqui for this tip. I wrote and got a response in 6 days, not down to 48hrs yet but very impressive in my books.

@Lek, thanks alot for the offer. I thought I should try what was offered first. If symptoms persist, I will get in touch.

@oteve, I wish I could pop into the offices, but am not in Kenya.

@All, thank you for your contributions and thoughts. I've decided to keep the policy.

@Salesman, hahaha you funny! A sweeping generalization from one post that I rush into decisions...? I said, I would like to cancel, read my post properly. I was seeking advice. Anyway, I am grateful to the members of Wazua who shed light on the issue of non-communication and poor service! So, how can I ensure that I get the best service?

@ Mercie,
ok. i mean if you already decided to take a 17yr insurance cover then go with it to its full cycle else u will blame the insurance co forever.for statments, i believe getting this stuff within 1st yr will be a tall order.wat u will get asap is RECORDS OF TRANSACTIONS of your policy which i again b'lieve is diff from a stmnt.as advcd earlier, with the policy no/id no the records can be sent to your email address within mins as opposed to a stmnt. stmts are usually generated after the policy starts to acquire what they call 'CASH VALUE'. again this involves alot of math. so in conclusion, u need to know what to ask for @ wat time.1st, know whther ua policy is upto date or not even if u know it shud be upto date.
