I actually wanted to start a matatu business and I wanted to know how to go about it: - Licensing, Specs, Best alternatives for max ROI, role of sacco, best models etc

depends...... is it a 14 0r 33 seater, new or second hand. if its a new 33 seater then the body builders will do most the work for you and the vehicle will be ready for business when you pick it up. If its a second hand 14 seater then you will need to do all the inspections by ntsa, payment of advance duty and also installation of things such as seats among others. Sacco will mostly deal with day to day operations such as paying for city council parking fees and applying for TLB.

This is a late reply. December was boom. Muchiki rules that removed probox on the road made things better for us legal folks.

The business really needs you to be hands on. I think owners should have a way of reporting bad drivers. So they are forced to not steal your tyres :)
