I am afraid you will end up breaking your runway trying to explain this simple equation to some lower class dropouts...Let them do what they know better; that's hawking handkerchief and boiled eggs!

ION: They cant see the 4th "element" is carefully jumped in order to confuse their hawking minds further...NKT.

If you had interviewed for international welding jobs like the one I am currently holding then you will know such questions forms part of what is called the aptitude test. But if you got the tea-girl/boy job by the rear door then I understand your predicament!

Comeon stop your linear kind of thinking welder

8*7=56
7*6=42
6*5=30
5*4=20
ofcourse 4*5 =20 as above
3*3=9

Another way to look at it

56-42 = 14
42-30 = 12
30-20 = 10
so 3 = 20-8 = 12

@murchr, what about this

7*6=42
6*5=30
5*3=15

Multiplying the upper left number with the lower one then moving to the next?

The ans is 6 radio, from my first example 5*4=20, continue the series 4*3=12 then 3*2=6 this one was easy, let me post another

Kinda reminds me of a pattern I had noticed in primary school

When you multiply a number by itself... it's always one more than the multiplication of the preceding number with the receding number i.e.
9*9 = 81 and 10 * 8 = 80 the difference was 1
8*8 =64 and 9 * 7= 63 i.e. the difference was 1
7*7 =49 and 8 * 6= 48 i.e. the difference was 1
6*6 =36 and 7 * 5= 35 i.e. the difference was 1
5*5 =25 and 6 * 4= 24 i.e. the difference was 1
4*4 =16 and 5 * 3= 15 i.e. the difference was 1
3*3 =9 and 4 * 2= 8 i.e. the difference was 1

only for later to discover that it was a simple algebraic equation..

Dedan Kimathi is a proper University with facilities and qualified staff.

If you are a real welder [people can make up stuff online] you would know they have some of the best equipped labs - Engineering especially.

Disclaimer:
Not an alumni (I'm too old to be one!) or interested party. But I have visited their facilities including the ADMAT lab (or something like that) which houses some of their Engineering labs.
