“The reason why Kenya was feted with middle income status is because of real estate boom. Nothing is changing for poor people. Whatever society we have today is an illusion unless we invest in children.” Kofi Marfo, Director, Institute of Human Resources Development at Agakhan University.

"The questionable nature of the Kenya middle class is exemplified by the fact that fast food chains that are fraternised by low-income groups in Europe and North America are the very same found in up-market malls and posh neighbourhoods in Kenya. "

Who belongs to the middle-class in Kenya today? And how much should one be making, per annum, while in the middle-class?

Middle class is not about numbers but how comfortable you are.

You could be earning 1 million yet struggling to meet you basic needs and some luxuries while a person earning 60K meets all their basic needs and luxuries as well as managing to save

Poor-If you are struggling to meet you needs
Middle class-You're comfortable in your life
Rich-You are wealthy, your assets are working for you
If Obiero did it, Who Am I?
