Money they don't have and can't afford to pay.

This was so much expected, and there must have been provision for that.

Am thinking this is good for KQ and bad for the staff who were fighting to be reinstated!

You put it to sound as if the news makes you feel good d'oh! Tyre burst can never be confused for a crash or even crash landing d'oh!

The only difference is the upward adjusted compensation for former staff affected(Most of us feel sorry for those who lost their livelihood though). Even if it goes to 1.5bn, that is insignificant compared to an annual budget of >100Bn.

Effect: Change of tyre will only delay but not cancel the take off.

KQ is not for those in the market in the short haul. If your time-span is 1yr please wachia Obiero hii. Ok now to the news.

Quote:
An air ticket to fly Kenya Airways from Uganda’s Entebbe airport to Jomo Kenyatta in Nairobi has become the hottest selling item in the region. This disarray in the aviation industry comes three weeks after the suspension of Air Uganda – the other alternative airline on the 45-minute route. Ticket prices for Kenya Airways (KQ) have shot up to between $500 and $1,500, more than twice the previous amount, according to Kelley Mac Tavish, the executive director, Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel.

This has made the Entebbe – Nairobi flight probably the most expensive shortest flight route in the world, with KQ exploiting the gap by increasing its flights out of Entebbe to seven, from five every day.

That fare hike is just unfair unethical and in very bad taste if its true. But I guess Entebbe has increased their fees as well

@VVS by the way the meals have greatly improved smile

Why hike the fares by that much, it's totally unfair and just goes to show us how bad that animal known as 'monopoly' can be, given a chance.

On the other hand, I hope the shareholders benefit too, or at worst it helps KQ reduce their debts.

This company is just digging its own grave..

I would rather use Rwandair to go from Entebbe to JKIA even if it takes 3 hours!

Useless useless useless company!

@murchr - Is that biz class or economy? Looks like biz class to me.

No appeal...

BD talks of the Appeals court not the Supreme court

"Kenya Airways’ bid to tame its wage bill was bolstered Friday after the Appeals Court overturned a judgement that had reinstated 447 employees."

@guru you apply the law of demand and supply when trading stocks. Let airlines find their optimal fairs using their own choice of principles, not just gambling Shhh
