Just received a circular on the revised NHIF rates and am told by my employer the rates take effect from April 2012...yaani 24K in a year

I thought the rates were effective from 1st of May...Atwoli is so silent what became of him..d'oh!

"ALL EMPLOYERS, CONTRIBUTORS and ORGANISED GOUPS should remit the enhanced contribution rates from 1st May 2012."

I hear the new rates are based on Gross instead of Basic pay. This is introducing additional taxation through the back door. They are not even giving any relief for this NKT

They are smart! Most salaries are consolidated and basic salary comes with some ambiguity. Again the NHIF is an expense and not a saving meaning it has to be taxed. I'm not an accountant though.

but there is insurance relief for life insurance plans @15% of the premium value. This thing just aims to get additional tax for health purposes. Wapi Atwoli?

@Lolest! I think u've an arguable case. The difference in the two is that for personal policies there is sum assured in case of death and the purpose of relief is to encourage people to have policies. For nhif the gov is looking for cash through the back door!

The Kenyan gvt is an interesting one.I understand according to the Kenya Healthcare Federation NHIF will only pay ksh.2850 per person per year for consultation,lab tests,radiology and other small services.I think GOK is smoking something

this is crime against humanity. have a taste of odm govt.he of "cheap serena' lunch pushed for this thing a while back.

this increase will go to increased staff salaries and some stuffed foreign accounts. we are doomed but for..
