infact i believe platinum credit and such institutions are in breech of the CBK lending rule that one cannot repay more than 100% interest on what he/she borrowed and this was a good exit stratergy by the holding comapny. When the new government comes in place such institutions shall have to follow the rules of the game.
Unless centums strategy is to convert platinum to a microfinance then eventually a bank but look at our banking space, the big boys own and protect their turf.....anyway all the best.

Platinum is very popular with civil servants, i remember i took a loan with them once and they had direct access to my payslip coz i used to pay them through my payslip. i think they should follow the American way and give pay day loans or such. they make tons of money coz many people out there are desperate for small quick loans and the amounts they want can shock you. but platinum only focuses on those with payslips. [/quote]

How much interest did you end up paying in comparison to original money borrowed?

problem of giving loans without security of a slip is that there is no way of recovering defaulters then you shall have a lot of good money chasing bad money

Centum reminds me of Enron, by the time they went bust, they were diversified into very many sectors and they were bleeding money due to too much debts. I dont know why centum ceo talks so big each time he opens his mouth but we are not seeing results as shareholders. I have got rid of a good chunk of my centum shares.

Haiya, what to expect next?

When will centum learn to keep its shareholders post? By September they had bought CAL BANK in Ghana, by the time they reported 1st half, they should have informed us. When they bought a telecom company shares, they should have told us. At least they told us about platinum.

With all due respect management of Centum is proving to have a lot of short comings especially concerning reporting and alerting of shareholders...I believe they have the backing of the board as they keep on pulling this stunts....isn't there a unit on communication in business?

2014 is coming so fast and we can't see the huge Balance sheet they promised us. What we see are loans, bonds, speculative investments and creative power point presentations ASiiiiii......

The only reason i retain this counter is because they are exempt from Income Tax on income from investments.

They can thus grow their Balance Sheet faster than any other company, with funds that would otherwise have gone to pay tax.

@sparkly insurance firms pay total tax of 10-12% so you might consider moving there.. Another perk is that they operate under similar business models so you also have rapid balance sheet growth!

I have decided to only in dividend counters. Its the best measure of seriousNess and health of a company- unless they are absolute comment. Intelligent investor noted there was no significant benefit to shareholders seen in share price growth when firms puport to re-invest dividends
The investor's chief problem - and even his worst enemy - is likely to be himself

Reading an undesirable message from this counter. The bond that was intended to raise KES 5B (including greenshoe option). Initially they issued it via private placement but only achieved to raise KES 3,167,900,000. They run to Wanjiku but only managed to get an additional KES 1B meaning the bond was still undersubscribed at the end of day. Now they are talking of going big in REITS, sale of development rights and whatnots. Worse, this money is being invested left right, ce… aiiii!!!
