The president has noted the concerns of CBK and Bankers on the capping of interest rates. Enough said!!!The rest are details... Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Seems too many guys are afraid of this, I say let's try it we can always go back like the car duty thing, trial and error seems to be our way. Policy? it will be like what National oil tried but failed at providing lower prices. To Each His Own

Uhuru sign the damn bill. Is this something that can be taken to a referendum come next election ama its only constitutional changes that are taken to referendums. For those who want viable solutions, this is how governments elsewhere operate (In general). 1) Reduce (government) demand. 2) Subsidize, review taxes downwards etc. 3) Offer cheaper options. For example, did Obama demand that hospitals should charge less so that everyone can afford medicare?? Of course not!! Come up with policies to ensure everyone is covered, equip government hospitals to ensure no one ever NEEDS to go to a private hospital etc. Have Germany, US etc. demanded that private schools and universities reduce their fees? Nope! Just ensure public schools and universities are equipped and staffed to a level that they can compete with private schools and Universities. Netherlands - You would never imagine of being a landlord! Why? The government - central and municipal - have built enough houses and ensure that everyone who needs a house gets allocated one. And they are affordable!! When you turn 18, you sign up with the Municipal and they get you a house. They do the same with education, medicare etc. If you have a job, you pay for cover. If you don't, the government figures out what to do. Do most developed countries have to deal with "matatu menace" and pricing? Nope! They have ensured public transport is well catered for - trains etc. Examples are endless. You have to decide if you are a Capitalist nation with free markets or a Communist/Socialist country. Even fuel price controls would have been addressed very easily without the "control" part. Just ensure there are National Oil stations all over the country and have them sell fuel at the lowest commercially viable price - the government can control the price being the owner. If the other petrol stations continue selling at plus 10 bob and Kenyans go to fuel there, no problem! So long as those same Kenyans had the option to buy the same fuel CONVENIENTLY at a lower price, it is okay! Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Very soon some "intelligent" fellow will suggest controlling the prices of fruits, milk, vegetables etc. because they are basic needs. And soon after that there will be no Fruits, milk, vegetables etc. in any shop, kiosk etc. Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

And by the way, the government has tried on the issue of affordable financing by providing cheaper alternatives - Women fund, Youth fund, Cheap loans to akina @Obiero and other civil servants etc. As this are scaled up and corruption reduced, demand and supply pressures might force banks to reduce lending rates. The next thing the government should do is deal with Ponzi scheme/Pyramid scheme kind of investments in the country. Let us get to a point whereby you can trust any investment avenue in Kenya > 98% because government organs will be doing their vetting job seriously and ensuring everything being advertised out there or operating out there is clean. That way, Kenyans will feel safe to invest their money in all these possible vehicles instead of parking it in the banks. The banks would then be forced to offer them better rates to keep their money there! Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

The President really has no powers...worst he can do is send it back to parliament indicating his reservations but if there is a 2/3 majority vote, welcome to the new world of capped interest rates.

They slammed Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge for what they termed as sleeping on the job as commercial banks 'run rogue'. Duale turned the heat on Njoroge, whom he said had failed to invoke his powers to rein in the banks. "Low interest rates were one of the issues the Jubilee government promised. It was also in the CORD manifesto. People have been asking why the rates are not coming down. On this, we are ready to go the full hog and even raise the two-thirds majority to defeat any presidential veto," he added. possunt quia posse videntur

I am not aware but Duale is not someone I would exactly trust with the Kenyan economy!!! And politicians will say anything to please the electorate. And that is one of the problems with Kenyan politics. You can't even tell what most politicians stand for. In the US for example they know who will increase taxes for which group and reduce for which group. Who will enhance social welfare programmes and who will cut down etc. Kenya ni pang'ang'a tu! It depends with what your so called principal says for whatever reason or who is paying top dollar or what resonates with your electorate etc. And your stand can change conveniently any time - a number of times!!! Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.
