YEP!!! the SL1200 is a boss turntable if you want to get the original feel and if you fancy yourself a scratch DJ, however you will pay top dollar for one of these. For the vinyls....which can be difficult to find, you can use the famous Serato solution where you can play mp3's and scratch using the turntables, you connect all this using a computer and Serato will give you two "signal" 12" vinyls for you to manipulate your sounds, another less popular solution is Traktor scratch pro.
Other brands include sony(YES) Stanton, Numark, crosley, Teac and Oracle.
On the digital side, you can use the industry standard Pioneer cdj2000. That also costs top dollar but it allows you to use mp3 DVD's MP3 cd's and regular audio cd's and it even has a usb port for your regular flash drive with tunes on it. Other cd based "turntables" or just really fancy and hardcore cd players brands include Denon, Stanton, Numark, cortex, gemini and many many more.
In every great dj setup there is a mixer. Most scratch Djs use a two channel mixer with a very flexible crossfader. The most popular is the Rane two channel mixer, Rane are the guys who make the Serato software as well as the hardware.
Digital Djs find the pioneer DJM800 a very popular mixer because of the host of effects it has..this is especially for Trance DJ's like myself who like to make our music sound a little different than the original recording. Top of the range mixer by pioneer is the DJM2000...which has a lot of fancy features, especially when linked with the CDJ2000 cd players. Denon Dj also have a saucy mixer selection my favorite being the dnx-1500. Ohter offerings include Allen and Heath, stanton,Makie, Beringer, and a whole lot more.
So really it depends on what kinda dj you are...scratch or digital.....

just like sl has mentioned above. it really depends on the type of jobs you have as an events person. wedding receptions are the easiest to do, you only need dual cd dj players, just need something like a numark cdn88, with mp3. you put your mp3 music playlist and the rest is history, that also applies to seminars, and other not so busy events. you can get one at credible sounds moi avenue, new or second hand. the price range would be 45-60k. they get the job done. period.

then theres the next level; single table top digital dj decks, the Pioneers, Denon, Technics DZ1200, these are 2 notches higher, the catch here is the diameter of the jog-wheel, its easier to pull stunts like baby scratches, stabs, cuts with this than with the dual cd decks. they are very good for clubs, and for your case evening parties, or company end of year, or after parties! current industry favourites are pioneer cdj2000 which cost 160,000KES in credible sounds or from a guy called nipul in westi. but, you can get the industry second best cdj900 - 125k, cdj1000mk3 - 100k, cdj850-90k, cdj800mk2-75k. remember this is price/piece. you need two pieces!

last of the players is the world reknown analog magnetic drive turntable, technics 1200 series, has been around since the late 70's and very little has been changed in them, but delivers the same good results over and over, they range from 1200, 1200mk2, 1210mk2, 1200mk3, 1200mk3d, 1200mk5, 1200mk5d, and the best being 1200 mk5g gold series. these are the ones kina adrian, dj pinya, dj john, code red, dj nijo (those who have gone for the untamed party series) and also world reknowned Djs use, or used these. these are used when you are a real mix master, or hiring one....like me! hahaha, anyways, hype, scratch masters use this when they really wnat to show off, or get a deal from his/her current performance.
i have a pair of technics 1210mk2's, i got them both for 45k for ebay.co.uk!!! and came with a relative.
for mixers, i use the rane series, you will never go wrong with these mixers, i use 2 rane-ttm57sl, for the pioneers, and a rane sixty-one for the turntables, they cost much but they never disappoint. 160k for ttm57, i got used ones for 1000$ each, quite a bargain, of course with a relative coming with them, and 140k for sixty-one. had to buy new. they were released in mid 2011!!! they can use serato technology or the good old vinyls and cds.
