@ Mwenza, Lets face it Mourinho has failed to achieve what he was signed to do....make Real Madrid top team in La Liga and Europe. In 2006-2007 Capello won La liga in his first attempt, Bernd Schuster did the same thing 2007-2008....apart from the Copa Del rey he won last season hakuna tofauti kubwa ya Mourinho's performance with that of Manuel Pellegrini. Players such as Carvalho, Diarra, Khedira, Altintop, Arbeloa and Granero won't get him anywhere.....for once i'll use one of your statements "as presently constituted" Real Madrid are not a threat to Barca.

I think it was the other way round. He won the la liga but lost the cl.

Thanks for the correction @bkismat - I was confusing with Cappelo, correct me if am wrong, delivered the last CL they won and failed to win La Liga.

However, like @Mwenza points out, this Barca team is a special team that deserves a place at the high table of the gods of club football sides, even Del Bosque's Madrid with Zidane on their side may not have beaten Pep's Barca with Messi on their side....just my 2 cents

@ Smano...I still insist Mourinho is clueless on how to beat Barca, his signings have not helped him at all....2007-2008 Real Madrid finished 18 points clear of Barca (who finished 3rd) and 8 points clear of second placed Villareal.

Their Squad then had the likes of Robinho, Saviola, Robben, Sneijder, Cannavaro, Ruud Van....this was the Barca squad then
Valdez, Zambrotta, Milito, Abidal, Toure, Iniesta, Xavi, Henry, Eto,o, Messi Subs: Ronaldinho, Deco, Marquez, Thuram, Pedro, Bojan, Edmilson

I don't believe Mourinho is clueless on how to beat Barca. While at both chelsea and Inter, he showed clearly that the best way to contain this Barca team (as currently constituted Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly ) is to defend. Unfortunately, at Real, Mourinho is not allowed to defend. You play an open game against this Barca team..... they kill you! Hii sio siri.

@ Mwenza....I think Mourinho has tried both defending and attacking against Barca na nothing has worked. Whenever he tries to defend too hard against the Catalans, they always get one or two of his players sent off....akijaribu open play, well we all know how ends. He's been using the same tactics with Inter and Chelsea, it was only a matter of time before they figured him out. Wenger is also in the same dilema with Arsenal, we cannot continue playing possession football everytime....now almost all teams know what to expect from us.

Fortunately for Mourinho, all is not lost this season. The la liga title is very much within his reach. This is because to win it he doesn't have to beat Barca. However, trust me if he lifts the title without beating Barca in the process, Real fans will not be amused.

His last CL which is Madrid's last was in the 2001-2002 season. His last liga was in 2003.He was sacked shortly thereafter.

@bkismat, again, I stand corrected, thanks - that's what happens when you try to remember from memory isntead of just confirming through Googlesmile

Anyway, I like all points above. It is true that Mourinho has tried defensive and open play (the recent 1st La Liga Clasico clash at Bernabeu where they lost 3-1 due to CR7's misses despite being evenly matched in the first 20 minutes)and nothing has worked except the second leg of last season's Copa Del Rey. In Inter he had the players to do the defensive work but still counter attack (Sneijder, Maicon) but the same Barca of 2007/2008 has grown together and been bolstered with Busquets, Pedro, Villa et al, couple with Pep's in depth knowledge of the La Masia philosphy. Meanwhile, Real have had like 6 coaches in 8 seasons. Stability in a team is pivotal - ask Chelsea.

So Barca are just too good, and the worst part is that they have been getting better. And Real, unfortunately, bring out the best in them, mpaka they created a mental block for Los Blancos, especially after having met (and beaten) them so many times recently.Bow Down

Barcelona are 2:0 up against Real Madrid at Half Time (4:1 on aggregate) for the Copa Del Rey. The outcome of these El Classicos is inevitable. Barcelona are too good!
