TO ALL UCHUMI LOVERS:
Sina ubaya.
Just a humble request.
Could you please provide some basis (figures/calculations if you can) of how Uchumi is worth 17 bob? Ama ata 12 bob?
Thanks.

Just take uchumi audited accounts and look at it's tangible assets divide that by the shares you will get a value that should tell if you sold all of uchumi assets and you will not be badly off.@deal has done some figures for you just look at his blog.

The other way it extrapolate the growth of uchumi earnings give it a conservative 10% growth(the growth for retail is around 16%)give uchumi a conservative p/e of 8 , remove even the tax credits look at that share in 3 years you will see why some of us are happy even it appears we are going down.

Then please please read this article http://allafrica.com/stories/201104260054.html

You know b4 Uchumi collapsed the auditors gave it a clean bill of health, so now its not a matter of how industry pundits value the chain but how I personally value the chain and I usually use different metrics to do that.
For instance why should I Pay a premium for a stock that I have not seen its FY report for the last Five yrs.

Secondly the reason why Uchumi is operating profitably is because shareholders were asked to pump in some more cash and creditors asked to turn their debts into equity and these guys have only a year b4 they can sell their stakes, so unless am really seeing value for this counter I wont touch it unless its going at a throw away price.

Here is my strategy to avoid getting burnt while investing 200k in uchumi and still make gains like I am currently doing...

Ive bought 4000shares @ 11
If/when the share falls to 8 ill buy 8000 shares bringing the average to 9.1(incase this is the bottom it might rally back to 12)...
If/when the share falls to 5 ill get 16000 shares and sit and wait because below 5 it is priced for liquidation which I do not see happening..

Total investment during the share price crash=28,000 shares @ 191,948kshs including commission at an average price of 6.85...

At 14 bob they would be worth 383,768 exactly 100% returns using averaging down strategy..

If I had invested 200k @ 11 bob returns would be 24% and ulcers during the crash...

And if I were to hold my breath for 5bob the returns would be 168% at 24 bob...

The reason for choosing this path and not just investing all of it at 5bob is because I cannot tell the future and therefore cannot tell if the stock will hit 5 bob or not but even if it does ill also be there to enjoy the ride up with my strategy of averaging down Laughing out loudly

Patience my dear, with a little patience you would have gotten yourself 28,000 shares at 7/-! Myself, I'll wait for it at the bottom of the slide.

@2012 this stock just might fall to 7 but you cant know for sure... What if it starts a rally back to 15 bob tomorrow ?? Then you'll be crying with cash and 11 would look like a steal...

Bottom picking is not wise with a volatile share like uchumi still finding its footing... Ive heard all sorts of predictions from 28bob to 5bob.... Right now its at 9.9.. Do you know if it will be up or down tomorrow?? Im thinking that cautious consistent buying would be better to take advantage of relief rallies in the share price...

@thedeal Uchumi is like GM in US it was a darling of most investors even though its growth pattern showed some weaknesses it eventually filed for bankruptcy.

Am not saying Uchumi will file for bankruptcy all am saying is I am very cautious when it comes to this counter because I think we have safe undervalued stocks in the market.

Like NBK, Uchumi prospects are determined by govt goodwill which I find a lil bit risky having been burnt by the same govt b4.

@guru, this is not one of the counters that would make me get sleepless nights or regrets, it would be a purely speculative counter for me even @5/-. I would consider getting in at 7/- and not any higher. To me Uchumi is another Access or Sameer and I'm sure that's what Mr. Merali thought when he got in before the.....

@guru, do you have counters that you would not take seriously?

I keep on saying it and I repeat it here. I don't see it going below 5/= but might stagnate @7/= after which some future event will drive it to some dream level.

Keep investing

And by the way....... I understand that Walmart is keen on the Kenyan market after successful entry in South Africa.

May be... may be.. they may buy Uchumi. We never know
