Gary Pallister believes Manchester United have restored the foundation on which to build a title- winning run to “devastate” their rivals in the battle for the Premier League crown.

Jonny Evans’ renaissance and Chris Smalling’s emergence as a solid prospect has provided Sir Alex Ferguson with a trusty back-up to Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the heart of the Reds defence. And after the ‘give-away’ period of early-season when the Reds conceded a hatful of damaging late goals, Pallister thinks United could now be ready for a mean streak.

“Going back two years ago it was the 1-0 results that won United the 2009 title,” Pallister told MEN Sport. “Those are the scorelines that break the hearts of teams chasing you. It is devastating for a rival when you see another challenger scrape out 1-0 victories. I think the Reds have got the solidity and strength in depth in the back four, particularly at the heart of the defence, to dig out those kind of results.”

Can't agree more. This is something have all along known. BTW, it doesn't necessarily have to be 1-0, any scoreline with one goal margin has a similar effect.

The Tottenham manager told the Sun: “ALEX FERGUSON knows his wines - but this won't be a vintage season for Manchester United on the pitch.

“As good as they are I do not think they are good enough to go through the whole season unbeaten.

“Even if they win the Premier League title this season, Arsenal are the original Invincibles and their record is going to stay intact.

“Of course, I'd love it will be my Tottenham team that ends United's unbeaten run on Sunday and we have a chance of doing it.

“It's not as if United are Barcelona or Real Madrid who are on another planet to everyone else.

“We can bring them down to earth and for the sake of the title race I bet everyone who doesn't support Man Utd will be hoping we do.

“It will keep all us teams at the top a bit closer together.

“If they win again, they will be threatening to run away with it. But the unbeaten streak is going to end before May - whatever the result on Sunday.

“It's not as if United aren't that good, but the league is far more open this season than for a long time so as a betting man I wouldn't back them matching Arsenal's record.

He concluded: “No one's invincible this season in my opinion. Results already have shown that.

“United have done well to get past the halfway mark without losing a single match - but it's just a matter of time before they do.”

@kelele...the arguments having been going on for so long and I doubt that if you reviewed comments from @Taz that you will anything resembling your comment.

Anyways Sunday is like 48 hours away. All non-man-u fans will be hoping that the unbeaten run ends.

Sadly though it may take a wolves, blackpool, westham type of game for that to happen.

I agree with Redknapps assessment...I doubt we'll go the wholes season unbeaten...what matters most is reclaiming the title from Chelsea as far as am concerned...if we do it unbeaten, at least we can stop hearing about the Invincibles.

That said, we're in the "grinding out results" mode, and for that reason, with the right tactics like employed against the Arsenal game, I believe Man Utd will beat Spurs.

No one wants to come out and say it so I will: CHELSEA WILL NOT WIN THE EPL IN 2010/2011 SEASON.

I still dream...of the trophy ending up at the bridge.

But jokes aside...lets hope no 'black swan' event hits old trafford before season end.

There is been lots of talk of sturridge starting in place of the rested drogba. Will see kesho if this works. Am expecting a draw but hoping that this is the 'true' turning point even if it is with a scrappy win.

Was reading somewhere that the reason chelsea are in the dumps is because the other teams have identified the style of play, leanrt how to counter it and more importantly how to 'defeat' it. To which Carlo is clueless in changing.

To all Manutd Fans!!!

Please, please guys, lets not lose sight of the prize here. It does not matter if we get beaten even 7 times. What matters is that we get the EPL title. If by chance we get it unbeaten... then we shall take that as a very welcome bonus. Let this 'unbeaten thing' be an Arsenal boast. After all its what they always remind us of whenever we remind them of their trophy drought. what manutd should do is stop drawing. Drawing can really deceive a team and make them comfortable. A loss makes you more hungry for a win. In the 06/07 season we lost more games than the second placed team but drew less. In the 07/08 season we lost more games than the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams but again drew less. In 08/09 season we again lost more than the 2nd team and again drew less. So I really hope there are no more draws for us untill maybe end of march. If we lose a couple of matches in between... that I can live with.

Remember again that Arsenal could have won the title in the 07/08 season but for the four straight draws sometime in Feb/March.

Whatever Harry said were just mind games. Remember He is a 'self confessed' fan of SAF.

See Fergusons response below;

Redknapp has already stated his belief that United will not emulate Arsenal's 'Invincibles' by completing the entire campaign undefeated.

Ferguson does not view that as an attempt to undermine his own team, merely another example of his friend's down-to-earth approach.

"There is nothing exceptional in that comment," he shrugged.

"Harry is just echoing what I have said all along. There will be a blip. But can you tell him I don't want it to be on Sunday?"

@guka, @TAZ and all the other Man U haters, today is the day! Please don't disappear from this thread after the game. I want to read your posts. Especially @guka. @TAZ never lacks anything to say - real or imagined!

Tottenham are a very good team, Rednapp has done well by them and they will definitely be tough opposition. But today they are playing Man U. Today's Man U win will be too sweet! It's Man U against the rest of the world! Everyone else can only unite against you if you are beyond great!!!

@Maich, your last statement is so true. United is great. Fans of any other club will be hoping, praying that United lose. A prayer that has been said for months. But its true; Today could just be the day...the day to break away!

Jus Blazin and Maichblak...As long as Arsenal keep winning, nothing else matters. The only reason i want Man Utd to lose tonight is because i want your unbeaten run to end.
If (big IF) it doesn't happen today, well no worries as Redknap said it will happen sooner than later. I hope we won't have a repeat of what happened at Old Trafford.

At least Mike Dean is the referee today for the match at WHL and not that Howard Webb who's on Man Utd's payroll smile
