@obiero - I need to look at the 1H 2012-13 results but I am worried about KQ's 2H 2012-13 as well. I think the worst (hit) of the hedges were taken in 1H but 2H has operational challenges thus the (overall) loss may not as large as 1H but an operational loss for 2H.

My non-Exchange Bar thoughts!

1) The huge salary savings that were not saved from the 800 staff who the (useless) court sent back to work. Upon their 'return to work', they probably did not care about working as much as gloating.
2) The costs of the 'firings' that have to be expensed. Lawyers, HR, etc.
3) The slowdown in 4Q 2012-13 (Jan-Mar 2013) due to the elections. Look at the 4Q passenger numbers.
4) The increased fixed assets (planes) in 2H 2012-13 which may not have been fully utilized with the low PLFs.
5) Aggressive RwandaAir & Air Uganda which competes for the lucrative KGL & EBB routes.

Pros
1) The LCCs seem to be dead/dying. Fly 540 has issues with FastJet. Jetlink has issues in South Sudan which crippled it.
2) The drop in the (share) price to reflect the problems.
3) Stable KES & fuel prices.

"The company put into the market capacity totalling 3,143m seat kilometres which was 4.5% below last year’s level. The decline during the period was as a result of discontinued operations to N’Djamena, Muscat and Jeddah though New Delhi joined the network in the first quarter of 2012."

Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

@obiero I've been listening to praises going towards you and your 'Exchange bar" but truth be told you said that HFCK q1 PBT would be 215million or a 14% rise and instead we got 279million or a a 46% rise!

How are these numbers even remotely similar??

imho your so called "exchange bar" is just you speculating at home using publicly available information to come up with predictions!

I'm sorry to say that Insider information is way way way way more accurate than the crap you are spilling here!!

You were lucky with kcb and even this still had variance... As we go along and you continue to get predictions wrong wazuans will finally see how fake this "exchange bar" really is!!

@others. why does this woman sound soo bitter. Pia yeye amekataa kuacknowledge loans and advances HFCK prediction as being accurate. Anywho, yesterday we met again with friends at the [in]famous exchange bar where it was revealed that the green regional bank is slated to report reduced PBT at KES 2.6B or lower. This comes hot on the heel of Citibank's leaked report that stated the green as well as brown bank had for some time been overstating profitability. Thank me later

Any Tom, Dick or Harry could've predicted KCB will report a lower q1.. You do not have to go to an exchange bar to know that!

@obiero I only hope you are wrong on the KCB prediction so as to completely finally kill this "exchange bar" mambo jambo!

Insider trading is everywhere even in developed marker like it or not.Its one one of the strategies used for trading with a high percentage of success. If indeed someone out there knows this then its fair enough to share ad long as its accurate. This way the effect is neutralized.
Obiero go on with your sharing but you have to vet the info b4 posting it here. Now am waiting for your numbers for CFC Stanbic

Since many are wondering about insider trading. Here's something about the same and it happens in Washington, DC. Also a simple search on google about political or authority insider trading as well as market manipulation gives a lot of results some of which are credible and have hit the mainstream media and some have led to jail term. In short insider trading exists in every market and there's no financial market that tells the truth. They can't make money if all info is in the public. Just remember when you profit someone else is losing... That's how the market works. Bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered. That's the reality and no broker, financial advisor etc will ever admit this. They'll just tell you that investing carries some risks Liar
