"Oil marketer KenolKobil paid its former chief executive, Jacob Segman, Sh707.1 million to settle a long-running dispute over his stock-based compensation, making it corporate Kenya’s largest single payout to an executive The sum is nine times the Sh77.1 million the oil marketer had earlier provided for in its books for Mr Segman’s compensation, but which was not disclosed as such."
Obiero waaah After running the company to bankruptcy. ..Hujuma but the share is bullish and wants to be at 20's Hujuma kabisaa. This will end up diluting the shares of the existing shareholders. Is it even legal? He should buy the shares directly from the NSE. I thought he was paid cash??? Read the article well @xxxx. The CEO has been offered 20 million shares by Kenol Kobil between 2020 and 2023

Listed KE firms do pay well! Heck, very well. Ohana (KK) - 151mn + Options Oigara (KCB) - 240mn Githogo (CIC) - 74mn And many others! It's good to know how much they are paid so as shareholders we can compare against other firms BUT I see their will be a lot of demand for higher salaries eg at banks after CEOs see what Oigara makes. I do not think employees will be thrilled at what CEOs make. As a shareholder, unless the CEO is pushing and generates real (alpha) value then it is worrying as well. How much can KK make without Ohana? [Can another manager who makes 40% still generate the same profits?] How much can KCB make without Oigara? [Can another manager who makes 40% still generate the same profits?] JM (Equity) made 30% vs Oigara but the "alpha" generated by Oigara may not be significant. Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

I also wish there was a way the sustainability of the firms in the long term can be considered in deciding on these hefty pay. You pay a CEO such kind of money and there are alot of hidden skeletons that are revealed much later .

How did Kk manage to emerge so strong in such a competition when it was almost collapsing? total and vivo failed, they should be far ahead of kk,with total trading at about 35bob a piece it's sensible for Kk to cross 20bob "Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning."

This will hurt KK volumes Yes, if VAT is added to the already high prices, not only KK (Vivo, Total) but most other firms except tenderpreneurs will be affected. Transport eg cement firms, airlines, tourism, etc [ARM, Bamburi, KQ, TPSEA] Sales of vehicles: Centum via GM Construction: HAFR, C&G Beer: Higher transport/fuel costs including running generators Agriculture: Kakuzi, WTK, etc all use tractors, trucks, etc Banks will also be affected since they finance many sectors of the economy. Inflation will jump leading to demands for higher salaries. Firms expenses will rise. If GoK used these "extra" funds properly then I would be more optimistic but they are likely to misuse the funds and pay the increasing interest costs on both local and foreign debt. As they said the issue of capping will be in the budget and it will be streamlined to removed but with some attachments. Now I can see Wanjiku and the Gurus are buying some of the stocks that went down due to capping. Such include Britam, COOP Bank, NIC bank, the two magic banking stock KCB and Equity, HFCK, etc
Its time to buy before the NASA fires the engine
