Correct. I have confirmed this

What have you confirmed? Kindly clarify.

Someone cleared a Land Rover range Rover Sport HSE, 2720cc, Year 2008 (CRSP value 9671111). Duty was 897k instead of 1.051M

Thanks @jimmy1. However, we need to confirm that the reduction in duty is not due to factors other than "capping of excise duty" at 150k/200k (regardless of durable value).

Which factors do you have in mind?

Duty on the popular. models, Toyota Belta (1290cc), Toyota Premio (1490cc) and Honda Fit (1290cc) was up by Sh98,001, Sh124,000 and Sh145,291 respectively.

Luxury cars like Range Rovers and Mercedes Benz, which account for a small share of all vehicle imports, however saw their excise taxes drop by up to Sh1 million.

What makes me annoyed is that they have increased the rate for common Mwananchi and not only have they made it same rate for high end cars that are fuel inefficient and environmentally unfriendly ,they have reduced the price.

Feels like telling people you have to be rich or else punished for not. Someone's not reasoning somewhere

Prosper by importing second hand cars which pollutes enevironment?

Excise duty is meant to discourage consumption of harmful goods/services that's why it's called sin tax.

Common mwananchi is not worried about owning a car but having accommodation, food and cothing
