Am a bit disappointed that people are discussing whether its right or wrong to strip women in public. The discussion is strictly whether its fine to physically assault anyone wherever. Its a criminal offense to do that. There is no exception whatsoever on this law. Poor dressing can not be anywhere near a reason Sad Sad Sad By the way when was the MEMO circulated on dress code? Who determines who is decent or not? Maybe if one is totally annoyed or hurt by a scantly dressed woman, the best punishment would be to cover her up with a leso so that you are not hurt any more.

And if I may ask silently, since when did men start "getting offended" by women displaying "too much" in public? When I was young, any girl who passed a group of us sitted somewhere having dressed in such a manner would be "escorted with the eyes" and sometimes naughty whistles instead of being beaten down.

this is what some "human rights" lead to....

LOL you can see it applies to men, not women.

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

But serious, stripping a woman is disgusting and demeaning.

How probable is it for a 'normal male' or group of males to decide a woman's not decently dressed and decide to undress her, for this moral reason only? I see the odds are very slim. The most probable scenario is a visiting girl goes to new territory and finds a group established to run a government of sorts, like Mungiki which runs such a rule explicitly. Even here the incident is improbable.

This is a case of assault for some other hidden reason and the clothes story is a cover. Others may copycat this cover for robberies.

Otherwise we are distracted by a moral question that seems to have been eating us from within and given mass media potential the matter has been twisted, so clear thinking has gone out of the window.

If the question is, 'how should a woman dress herself?' Then Democratic and principles of natural justice hold. Only, we should consider the matter of 'human responsibilities' to balance 'human rights'. Radical individualism needs to be tempered by a radical kind of collectivism for harmony to exist.

But we are mostly not a progressive people. I know here the question is who's a progressive person? A progressive person is one who's constantly changing the meanings of symbols at his/her disposal to adapt to nature and to generate work and further collective social ideals.

Hope, or hopelessness is a function of a progressive attitude working with the symbols in use. So if it's a question of leadership providing hope, then we should each be progressive in our individual capacities.

A failure of the country's leadership, can't give hope and/or opportunity to this class of people, the system has broken down, at some point it will not hold anymore. Choices have consequences. Instead of fixing the problem, they have joined the chorus that is condemning the oppressed, asking the IG to carry out an illegality - arresting the perpetrators on the basis of a phone recording which will not be admissible in any court, and there being no complainant. I say again, choices have consequences, accept and move on.

This is so dumb & so sad....that a grown literate person can reason like this.

@bird_man. Not so quick. The TRUTH is ever bitter. Why do you think such heinous acts are carried out by such group of men? The low-lives with no hope.

Its pent-up anger, resentment because they feel the society [nation] has let them down. They maybe wrong on that, but that's how they feel. I see them everyday, every now and then, they work for me[that class of men, NOT makangas] They think since the people up there have been "stealing" from gov't [through tenders and outright fraud] ,they need to get even. This group feels marginalized. If you are young and not "suffering" like them, they take it your parents are beneficiaries of the system, hence the feeling to "hit back" at the system through you.

What @gordon has said is true. Those videos might not hold as evidence in a court of law. Plain and simple, a court of law is not a court of opinion.

So, what's the way forward? We need to fix our society[nation] COLLECTIVELY devoid of emotions. Starting from the top leadership, let there be and be seen to be hope, good things happening and not the politicking and 'stealing" from public coffers. Let every youth have HOPE, have REASON to fear doing evil. As it is, majority have nothing to lose coz the system has been "screwing" them.
All the leaders [both in public and private sector], be responsible and accountable. Serve diligently. To the "tenderpreneurs", stop the "stealing" from your people. The marginalized will come back to haunt through any of the many crimes being mete unto you or your kin or your business interests.Let the margins be reasonable, the rest of the funds go into improving security, improving health, improving infrastructure [even Bargoi, Kapedo, North Eastern] will benefit, improving security, bringing in tourists, growing the economy, bringing in economic development hence giving HOPE to our people. Then will have a prosperous CIVILIZED nation, not POCKETS of the same.

Let's not focus on curing the symptoms, this is a SYSTEMIC issue, just as insecurity, Kenyan terrorism to a large degree, messed-up education system, lax security apparatus [e.g no arrest has been made so far] etc etc.

Until then, let's all be conscious of our surroundings. It has gotten to a level where we have been made to choose which "rights" to exercise and which not to. No need to turn yourself into a statistic in the name of your "right". [And pray to God for good luck, some have suffered even after taking precaution]

As we sing "rights", let's not forget the small matter of responsibility in all spheres of our lives.

NO STRIPPING ANYONE OFF THEIR CLOTHING WHATSOEVER!

If we could get someone or an institution to blame every time we did a wrong....
I mean,I interact with watchmen who work day jobs as mjengo people & watchies at night. They are stressed, beaten & hopeless. But they do not steal/rob/strip women.
Don't try to get excuses where there are none.
Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

I found this interesting.

You're a thick head if you start a hashtag saying #nudityisnotmychoice yet you agree women should be stripped nude and shamed. Have a stand: nudity is nudity.
