The reasoning behind that is this: if the pedestrian is alive, any subsequent pains he will experience in the body, you will have to foot the medical bill, even if it has nothing to do with the injuries. The police say, pedestrians will always claim that their subsequent injuries are as a result of the accident. And you will end up spending a lifetime, and a fortune on medical expenses.
never thought about it like this. Crass.
First, not realizing the gravity of putting another human being in harm's way through reckless / careless driving, THEN wishing they die so its easier on your pocket. That picture is disturbing.
It's very sad but I've heard the same thing.
Ever heard something like "Dead men tell no tales". Apparently if the person is dead, the police can assist in writing a "better" accident report at the right price - just a couple of thousands. The exact position of the accident can be changed - even by a few metres - e.g. if you knocked down a pedestrian on a zebra crossing, this can be adjusted by a few metres; if it was on a straight road, it can be moved to the nearest bend etc. and there will be nobody to state otherwise.
Another thing, there is a maximum amount up to which the insurance can cover you. In the case of death, the beneficiaries are paid a fixed amount as per the policy. If the person is alive though the claim might surpass the limit. Ever heard of lost income? A person claims he can longer perform his job well because of the accident. The court calculates how much he would have made from the time of the accident to his/her retirement - this is what the person should be paid. Only that you knocked down a 35 year old neurosurgeon. When you see the amount, utafikiria ni number ya simu - complete with the country code.
Having said that, I would rather ram into an S-Class Merc. than hit a fellow human being regardless of the extent of the injury. Imagine breaking the hand of a jua kali artisan for example. Even if he will be back to a 100% in a couple of weeks/months, what do you think his family will be eating in the meantime. They might be starving on the streets by the time he can work again!!!
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.
