Airtel will pay for those porting to their network.

Thats a fantastic Idea .... you try their network for free and when you are not satisfied you pay to get out.

200/- is affordable to port over... Though @vimto says it is only 35/- in India!

Though with calls at 1/- or less in India, why even bother?

The only thing that will save Safcom is MPESA & Data (3G).

You can still receive Mpesa with your ported number but it will be expensive to Withdraw.... or will Airtel also waive these charges?

Now safaricom accuses Airtel of Sabotage.
Quote:
Safaricom is complaining over serious unethical competitor behavior by Airtel in the implementation of mobile number portability and is looking for the intervention of CCK.

From that link, Safariom seems to have a point. Methinks MNP has not been the success Airtel envisaged it to be after spending so much on its marketing, so they are now crying victim to shift attention!

The laudable is more often than not rendered laughable by overclaim

Quite true; if I were SCOM, I wouldn't honour any request that is not on the agreeed standard form.
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

MNP in my opinion will only be beneficial and cost effective to customers on post-pay. For example in the UK, mobile service providers use it as a marketing tool to lure contract/pay monthly customers when they're due for an upgrade from their current service provider to another one that can give them a better deal, in which they can retain their number if they jumped ship.

This sounds rather like a wish. It is far fetched.
I think Safaricom concerns were about subscriber mis-information, mis-presentation of facts and witholding vital information from subscribers. This doesn't show in any way that Safaricom is terrified.
