The only day i'll consider buying kq is when it goes below 24. I swear heartbreak upon heartbreak. And it should be like a rule, never average down on kq......i didn't

If you wish to speculate on the share, I believe one can buy, if the share dips below 35. However, you need to be very nimble on your feet to make a quick exit!

Long termers need not rush into the share until the fund raising situation is clarified. But if you can take the risk of a drop in the event of a rights issue being announced, 35 is certainly not a bad price to be getting in at. The share could well head back beyond 50 with good 2011 results and reduced international fuel prices. The drop in the shilling's exchange rate is also likely to help out KQ's bottomline. Fortune favours the bold, or so they say.

@simplified - What @mwanahisa says!

Buy a 100 so you are eligible for any Rights Offer though I do NOT support a Rights Offer since KQ is trading at 30% below NAV

I am also not in favour of a rights issue. However, you and I are hardly in a position to prevent Naikuni & the B.o.D from going for it, if they have their minds set upon doing so. All the same, I have got this sneaking feeling that if the price remains at the current level, or falls further then it will be really difficult for them to go for rights. I believe the best bet for KQ is to issue a convertible/redeemable bond which they can convert to equity when market conditions are more benign.

If by any chance they were to reverse course on a rights issue, and other factors become more favourable, I believe the KQ share price could experience a nice rebound. But these are very many IFs.

@mwanahisa - The key is not Naikuni or BoD [who have very few shares & that pisses me off too] but KLM... If KLM does not buy into the Rights, there will be very few who will support the Rights... Vote of confidence...

KLM carries a lot of weight on the KQ board even if they may only have 2 directors. If I am not wrong, they actually have a VETO on the appointment of both the CEO and the Finance Director. Hence if the B.o.D recommends a rights issue, we can only assume that it would have been with their concurrence.

From their standpoint, that may not be such a bad thing as it may enable them to purchase more of KQ at a discount. I hope you remember how Guinness managed to get controlling shares in EABL back in the day!

Unlike Access Kenya smile at current floor price of Ksh33/34, KQ is a strong leverage down contender if not longer term investment!

stop being excited about daily price swings. they mean nothing right now.investors are i bear mode and any price jump is what is called a corrective rally.and there will be very very many of them this year.
i have read on wazua that some are seeing KQ at 33.00 being very juicy let me tell you the truth at 24.00 it will be even juicier...
Those who are buying the market right now you better be buying knowing that you'll be buying the same stock at even a lower prices.
Momentum is picking up for a sell-off in the n.s.e . another mention of "Ocampo is coming" will make the index do some nose diving....lol
i am currently in cash and just waiting for more bargain to come up coz we have a whole couple of months before us to chose the bargain we want. this bear is here to stay.
and DONOT even think 1st Quater results will change anything.FULL YEAR RESULTS OF 2010 didnt.

@qw. How do you know how long or how low the bear will stay. Truth is no-one really knows, even u. Kq may never get to 24, or it may. If u were abit more flexible in your predictions, it would be better. The market is unpredictable but your stances are so solid. Remember how you and everyone thought this was the year of the bull? No one saw the decline coming. In the same way, expect more surprises. And be flexible to take advantage of them.
