There's freedom to declare dividend (special, interim, final) etc. and other material changes at will. Good example is Kenya Re itself declaring the 3:1 bonus share issue way after publishing full year results; also, I&M declared an interim div late Dec 2018 despite having already published half-year and Q3 results... So, if Kenya Re wants to declare a special div it can do so at any time, payment date notwithstanding.

Global Credit Ratings (GCR) upgrades @Kenya_Re’s Financial strength rating from AA to AA+.


The Global Credit Ratings (GCR) has upgraded the credit rating of Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (Kenya Re) under the new criteria released in May 2019. Kenya Re’s Financial strength ratings were reviewed from AA to AA+.

Its international strength ratings have also been revised to a rating of B+ in 2019 from a rating of BB in 2018. The positive ratings was due to a strong risk-adjusted capitalization. GCR notes that Kenya Re has adequately catered for the relatively stable quantum of the insurance market and credit risk.

The agency also cites the re-insurance firm’s strong liquidity with liquid assets being 53% of the total investment portfolio. In addition, the liquidity coverage of net technical liabilities and operational cash coverage was fairly stable during the last three years.

profit before tax increased by 35% from ksh.3.1bn to ksh.4.18bn due to high gross premiums written,significant growth in the share of profit from investment in associate in Zep Re and gains on revaluation of investment property.
Asset base grew by 14% from ksh.44.36bn to 50.36bn
The board of directors recommend a dividend of ksh.0.1 per share
