Mark Thornton: ‘Record number of Americans in extreme poverty’

“Extreme poverty in the United States is now over 4 percent, that means they have less than $2 cash per person, per day,” Thornton said in a phone interview on Monday.

Headlines that makes your head spin.

Rockerfellers are divesting from oil...

http://americasmarkets.u...-oil-to-make-statement/

Yep, you read that right. Dumping fossil fuels/hydrocarbons for clean energy.

Is this why WTI & brent oil have been skidding since July 2014?!
$15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

Something's gotta give it seems #Ethanol #Co-generation. Throw in Brazil & sugar will become scarce globally, locally, keeping Importers away. USD/KES pressure will be a deal sweetener... http://www.financialexpr...for-more-ethanol/1291724

Yep. Something will have to snap. This is how tobacco market got cornered in the 90s when a number of funds dumped the tobacco industry i.e. funding as well as equities dumping. In KE I look at BAT and wonder when that clifftop moment will arrive!

You and I been bearish oil forever. It's a nice thing that such moves from the big funds are now going mainstream. Of course cheap oil means that some mines will go offline as production costs outweigh income and force the hydrocarbon diehards to push funds to alternative energy sources. I can hardly wait for Middle East to get this wake up call and force their SWFs to invest those funds in more clean energy ventures. Only cheap oil extraction will make sense going forward and this is why there is excitement about the EA hydrocarbon playground. Deep sea hydrocarbon extraction is now DoA - at least the seas remain clean.

On my global portfolio I have Tesla and Kandi Technologies as a clean energy play.

Hehe. Sure, $90 for days. $60 would come with spanners smile

I see, that's a bet on elec. interesting. Yep, better generated from clean and affordable sources for sure. The farm-to-car value chain if agro-based can put more at work & biz at face value.

I bet you also saw the actualization of the proposed platinum cartel [BRICS summit 2013, RSA] with the recent Zim-Russia mining deal. Hope it can still be of utility in those elec. cars smile

Let's see. We can review some domestics. The geothermal uploading is near finished, cheaper fuel, subsidized fertilizer, cheaper credit* - should have a +ve effect locally near-term.

@hisah interesting these ventures of yours. Came across some reads here.

http://www.northeastern....-to-put-all-the-energy/

http://www.futurity.org/...ter-aaa-battery-752912/

http://www.nj.com/news/i...f/2014/09/post_360.html (interesting debate on the comments section)

Of note is the quest to make constituents of the fuel cells cheaper i.e swapping Plat. for nickel, cobalt or iron catalysts smile Nonetheless, before the likes of Power Africa catch up in developing countries, ounces upon ounces will be sold.

Zim has to offer those three as well; nickel, cobalt & iron.

Best wishes.
