@Jammo & Pattie,

Back to the question,did you start the dairy farming business? Challenges?

Overheard a colleague say this yesterday: 'Shaos has not collected the shek' to mean Charles has not corrected the cheque!

Read the above dairy nation article (DN pg16) and remembered this thread.

Now this guy is a 26yr old IT dude has 170 cows on a two acre piece of land in Limuru and has over sh 1M in monthly turnover from the business! Has managed to get 56litres of milk from a cow a day

@Tebes,
Something doesn't add up.1M bob a month for 170 " daily" cows would mean approx 6K per head per month....@30 bob a litre,it would mean that each cow gives 200 litres a month or 6.7 litres a day.....Nguno,my late Guka's boran cow,would beat this fresians any day....lol

@Njuge
This guy only requires about 100 cows to be milkedat an average of 45 litres daily to sell 135,000 litres a month @ ksh 30 = 4m.
Now deduct expenses which could be about 2m I even think he is being very conservative with his profits!

@Julie,
Exactly my point.1M is "abuse" returns for such a big herd.....am also thinking,why would you want to keep the other unmilked 70?...Don't say it's for manure.smile
