Reading three-quarters of the comments one can guess why we always elect below-par leaders who will be quick to ravage us of wealth while still commanding a great following. I cannot even say Mugabe had flashes of brilliance or Amanpour was biased since I dont consider the former a leader. However,let me be petty for our short-sighted brothers and sisters... Just remember when he was asked about Bennet,he stammered for a good 15 seconds.

@ 3piece,

Its what Senior/old Presidents do to avoid saying things they will regret.

... It was all going perfectly,in fact,until Leno eased the conversation away from the economy and onto sports,asking Obama if he enjoyed bowling. The president said he found time to practise,but had only managed a score of 129. 'That's very good,' Leno interjected mockingly,at which point Obama became sufficiently amused,it seemed,to forget,for one cringe-inducing second,that he was on television.

'It's like the Special Olympics,or something,' he replied,in what seemed meant as a self-deprecating joke – and from the expressions that flickered across both men's faces it was clear they both knew Obama had committed arguably the first rhetorical gaffe of his young presidency...

Get it?

@Jaribu,Kenyanbeef,3Piece,

Let me quote you a line from one of Bob's songs '....emancipate yourself from mental slavery for none but yourself can free your mind.... 'The truth is that these people are not our friends- we have history to back this.We should approach them with a business-like attitude. Relations with them should be quid-pro-quo.Trust you me,thats how they view us.

Still on Bob Marley,this is what he proposed of Zimbabwe

And in this judgement there is no partiality.
So arm in arms,with arms,we'll fight this little struggle,
'Cause that's the only way we can overcome our little trouble.

Brother,you're right,you're right,
You're right,you're right,you're so right!
We gon' fight (we gon' fight),we'll have to fight (we gon' fight),
We gonna fight (we gon' fight),fight for our rights!

Natty Dread it in-a (Zimbabwe);
Set it up in (Zimbabwe);
Mash it up-a in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Africans a-liberate (Zimbabwe),yeah.

No more internal power struggle;
We come together to overcome the little trouble.
Soon we'll find out who is the real revolutionary,
'Cause I don't want my people to be contrary.

And,brother,you're right,you're right,
You're right,you're right,you're so right!
We'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight),we gonna fight (we gon' fight)
We'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight),fighting for our rights!

Mash it up in-a (Zimbabwe);
Natty trash it in-a (Zimbabwe);
Africans a-liberate Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
I'n'I a-liberate Zimbabwe.

(Brother,you're right,) you're right,
You're right,you're right,you're so right!
We gon' fight (we gon' fight),we'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight),
We gonna fight (we gon' fight),fighting for our rights!

To divide and rule could only tear us apart;
In everyman chest,mm - there beats a heart.
So soon we'll find out who is the real revolutionaries;
And I don't want my people to be tricked by mercenaries.

Brother,you're right,you're right,
You're right,you're right,you're so right!
We'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight),we gonna fight (we gon' fight),
We'll 'ave to fight (we gon' fight),fighting for our rights!

Natty trash it in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Mash it up in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Set it up in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Africans a-liberate Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Africans a-liberate Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Natty dub it in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe).

Set it up in-a Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Africans a-liberate Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe);
Every man got a right to decide his own destiny.

The comment on Desmond Tutu as having devilish comments and 'not knowing what he was talking about,the little man' though misplaced,was quite hilarious.

Anyway,I think we all agree that Westerners are NOT our buddies but we have to balance our dealings with them. Look at the Saudi's,they've invited them to their lands to utilize their oil drilling expertise but still control the oil,and world economies,and if you dare attack the Saudis,you'll have hell to pay,along with the rest of the world.

That said,I think years of colonisation gravely impacted our visionary capacity. My 2 Zim cents..

Mugabe will become irrelevant when there is a successor opposed to him but who genuinely represents observance of human rights AND return of land grabbed under colonialism. Tsan... is yes opposed to Mugabe but I neither associate him with human rights crusade nor genuine land reform and he appears to put too much premium on what the West should do and comes out as one who represents ouster of mugabe at whatever cost.

Things are not black and white in Zim as the international media would have us believe. Call them what you want but there are large numbers of Zims who from the bottom of their heart support mugabe,just like there are genuine Kenyans who supported tribal hate mongers in our last elections. It is a characteristic of many elections to look for hate figure(s) and simplify a message around this hate and both mugabe and the Tsan.. have tried these tactics with almost equal success. Despicable it is but it is not an african thing- those who followed the american elections would agree how despicable some die hard anti-obama people would get. It is not an easy choice for Zims.

For now we should pray for Zim that a leader shall emerge who shall restore people's faith in their democracy AND bring genuine land reforms,without one compromising the other.

so mugabe's point would become relevant....
