All those saying ati wanategemea gava can't be serious. They made mad money for KBC through advertising but were not properly compensated. The fact that they are ok right now is because of their side hustles, playing in hotels and the like. they used to be the biggest local TV show on KBC with a bunch of advertisers riding on their shows. I know it's history but dudes never got paid.

lol... the only thing is... THE WORLD DOES NOT GIVE YOU WHAT YOU ARE ENTITLED TO! Have you not learnt that yet? You need to have a big stick on your side as well. If they don't give you what you want - you crack the whip! Why do you think people pay you what your are worth? it's because if they don't you go elsewhere... what was the ELSEWHERE for akina Ojwang? The cards were stacked against them... no one pays you what you are worth - people will pay you what they can get away with.... KARIBU DUNIANI!

FYI: if AMERICA had one station... the big actors that you are referring to would have suffered the same fate!

No one can pay you your worth, no matter how big a stick you wield - at best you will be paid what your employer can afford, if you need your worth then you should be paying yourself.smile

anyway, I think the vitimbi crew were content with what they were getting, and they seem like a happy lot, fully satisfied and exited by what they were doing - the only thing that got to them, at least from the interviews they have given - was the unexpected termination.

By the way.... ati Vitimbi co. brought KBC/VOK ad money? where else could the advertisers go to get TV ads shown? where else could akina Ojwang go? where else could you as the viewer go? KBC/VOK controlled the market place and if you control a marketplace in a monopolistic manner - you had better make the most out of it coz as soon as the environment changes - you lose everything as it happened.

@Masukuma
You are not stating anything we haven't already said. In fact you are making our point which is that VoK/KBC exploited their actors because they did not have other options. Whichever way you slice it, VoK actors were exploited. The fact that there was only one station available does not make it acceptable.

Its kinda like slavery, where people were exploited because they could not defend themselves. That does not make slavery acceptable.

Except that in those days, parastatals were a vehicle for enriching a few well connected people. KBC hardly re-invested their profits by buying better equipment or producing better programming. The money seemed to dissappear into the ether or into the pockets of the bigwigs.

yeah... what they did with their money is a different thing.... the arguement is that they should have been looking after akina Ojwang... and my question is "why?".... "why? and akina Ojwang had no leverage"... you call it "exploitation" they called it "market rate". coz they were the market... unless aende TZ!

Mzee Ojwang wasted his money and fortune to alcohol and women. I got little sympathy to brains that wast their lives thinking society owes them something.

Mzee Ojwang died a hero.He managed to achieve what most of us can only dream about. He left his lucrative career in Nursing at Kenyatta hospital to do his passion. He was happy and passionate about what he was doing. He wasn't perfect but he pursued his dreams.
Most of us are caught up in dead end jobs for the sake of money. That's why we have doctors and nurses who can watch a patient die because it is not their passion but they are there just because of money.
We have very corrupt police officers who allows terrorist to come to the country because the only thing they care about it money.
It is sad to wake up to a job you that you hate.
So many parents previously discouraged their children to become artists and musicians.Mr Ojwang travelled through the unfavourable route. The route of ridicule and being looked down upon. When the success and achievements of a person is measured only in monetary terms.A thankless society with a sheep mentality.
Churchill and his crew are enjoying the fruits of his hard work and dedication.I celebrate him.

Then why were vitimbi crew castigating KBC that they were not paid enough money?
They would have been satisfied with other achievement, like being on TV every Wednesdays and Sundays and dancing on Moi days at Nyayo stadium.

Were they forced to work for KBC, dance at the stadiums etc?If the work you are doing is not paying, quit and find the one which is paying you better. In life , passion is for the rich, survival is for the poor!
