Catholic church does not hold the creation story as the only way by which the world was created. The scholars hold the first 12 chapters of Geneses as Asian myths. The African bible notes acknowledge that the African myths on creation and origin of life compares well with the creation story in the Bible. The scholars who wrote the notes in the African bible refused to acknowledge the bible creation story as the only way by which world was created. Life may have come through creation, big bang, evolution, African myths etc.
The Pope is within his rights to suggest that the world may have up through evolution.
