Mr Wamunyota, you see your post is just too suspicious (bar claims that you have a wife blah blah blah)

Ati you have been seeing too may gays, and they are this and they are that, and you clap when someone says they are with us etc. Small facts here and there seem to point to someone who is very sympathetic to the LGBT movement, or entertains some fantasies or perhaps plays for both teams.

You see Wazua is used to fellows beginning conversations like this, but then I could be wrong...

Fair enough.Here are the facts.
1)I am not gay.
2)I have met a number of gay people both in school and in work environment.
3)I believe gay people have rights to live their lives.
4)Their rights should not interfere with my rights.
5)They should do their activities within the confinement of their homes.
6)I am not a gay activist.
7)I don't judge
8)The movement is growing exponentially.

Probably you attract them. smile It can't be a coincidence that you happen to meet so many compared to the rest of Wazuana.

Actually when you get to know one you end up knowing several by extension. Initially you are surprised that they are not the stereotypes shown in movies. They are very ordinary. I got over it and accepted and learnt to live and let live.

After reading from 2 response pages, I just stopped..how hard is it to be objective here? Let us just cut individual prejudices, sanctimonious saddles or plain derogation of a poignant question and answer @Wamunyota's queries if we have answers?

Good point. Let me objectively summarize my contribution:

Quote:
a)Do we have an increase in the number of gay people? If so why is this?

I do not think we have an increase in the number of gay people just an increase in exposure and awareness. Also the advancement of human rights has made us more sensitive to the various minorities amongst our population. The availability of social media has also contributed.

Quote:
b)Do we as a country have a soft spot for gay people.

We generally do not but I think this is variable amongst various population strata especially on the basis of religion, education and economic status. This would make a good research question.

Quote:
c)Is being gay the in thing?

It don't think so. I think that subjectively it may seem so when one notices a "surge" in homosexuality from being more aware of their presence as more come out of the "closet".

Quote:
d)Do we have documented number of gay people in Kenya?

Not officially. Most are estimated guess work. With the new outlook from the constitution they may eventually be included in the national demographic and health survey reports. The challenge will be identifying them since the law and general custom is against homosexuality and thus prohibits many from identifying with same sex sexual orientation. This would make another interesting research point.
