I think I addressed this specific comment in another thread sometime back...

don't fight change - like a judoca use its force and direct it. those dark days did not have cures for simple things like diahorea. be like those guys in 1 Chronicles 12:32.... Know the times and know what step you are going to take.

Even the bible tells you the same thing! in ecclesiastes 7:10

p.s with an life expectancy of 22 years in precolonial Africa you would already be DEAD!!

Boss, that 22 is a fallacy. Maybe in Europe at the height of their plague. If anything, back then, they live a longer, healthier life... and since you've brought up the Bible, check the ages in the Old Testament.

Death is inevitable. I intend to take my sweet slow time, savoring every moment till then. Hii kukimbia kimbia, nimekwachia wewesmile

@Mukiri the language used in stating the number is called "speaking figuratively".

Those who are talking about poverty levels and people hungry in need of feeding, why don't we start right here.

Feed every hungry stomach before LAPSSET,new railway line, etc etc.

The poor and hungry will always be there. How many whites are talking of hungry South Africans now that the World Cup came and went?

It's white supremacy. Sad some wazuans are buying into it.

@masukuma. Hats off. On this one, tuko pamoja.

they want you to focus on subsistence!! kukula kuishi kuBreed! A couple of weeks a go I used the GauTrain from the Airport to Pretoria - it was interesting to see that in Africa... built for the worldcup... imagine if they never had a need for high speed railways? they would be dragging their feet on it.

[quote=masukuma]A group of white folk were busy advising SA to 'feed its people' instead of bothering with hosting the Worldcup in 2010. Same group thinking is rife in brazil on its hosting of the worldcup and the olympics! I am sure that many white folk were not happy when China hosted the olympics as it did.

My take is similar to Fernando Duarte's - DEAL WITH IT!

South Africans ended up going to stadia during the winter.

Many white folk ended up happy they maintained their summer timetables, even if through television.

more like terrified at every moment until then. I once asked a question - hawa mababu zetu tunaambiwa walikuwa wakiishi miaka mob walikuwa wakijitibu na nini? consider all the diseases that we have eliminated using immunization - what were they using before? I tell you people used to die like flies! people were married off at puberty coz at 20 there is no guarantee that the guy will be around. he may be bitten by a snake, eaten by a lion, fall off a cliff, injured by a rock and get a septic injury on his foot, get diarrhea, cholea, measles, mumps, whopping cough, small pox, typhoid, bilhazia, malaria, pneumonia the list is endless. the reason they never had cancer was because they never got to 50 years! even life expactancy in europe was not so good 100 years ago.... Boss start living today and facing tomorrow coz that is where we are going!

A question.. What is your ideal place/country? Where would you want to see yourself, and by extension Kenya?

my ideal situation is when we as africans just style up. We had lines drawn on some pieces of paper called maps in 1884 we embraced that product like it was to our benefit (see the beef in the EAC thread). When we focus on real issues on how to get ahead we will make it. stop chasing squirrels set on your path like the 0.25 acres that is migingo and start facing the fact that the larger you are the better you can do your things. Secondly, we have so so much information available now - the old gate keepers to information are no longer there can we start using this instead of thinking the same way we thought in the 80s. I want to see myself in a more optimistic Africa not one that constantly gives excuses on why we cannot do 'A' or 'B'.
I want to live in an Africa where the Governments rig the system for African companies! since really money is just a medium of exchange to assist production.

sending a spacecraft to mars will not benefit india economically in any way, its just an achievement, you can not classify that with building super highways and improving infrastructure. that money could have been used to improve the lives of poor indians

C/P from the bbc story

"Those who defend India's current direction in space exploration say the technological development required to mount this mission could indirectly benefit the country's other activities, including poverty reduction."

We took on the white man's education did we become Europe? no we became a better Africa! we took on the White man's Medicine did we become Europe? We have adapted his computing.... have we become Europe? We are all about being a better Africa. A better land for our children.

How?

They might discover some mineral on mars that can feed the hungry, they might initiate communication with aliens out in space to come and invest in india. smile

How?

Again the myopia of seeing the space program as being a standalone product....google benefits of the nasa space program. the intellectual property generated by space programs (a group of scientists seated somewhere trying to find better ways to travel and beat nature)is immense from winglets on the tip of plane wings that save billions of dollars on fuel to things in medicine.

check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/...A_spin-off_technologies

plus the benefit that one day Jupiter may not be able to absorb an earth bound asteroid or comet (or my draw one which was not heading in this direction originally to be earth bound) you will need proven stuff to do what Bruce Willis did in 1998!

consider the distance between here and Mars i.e. 56 million km! light and thus radio waves take 3 minutes to get there directly and if you are bouncing it off satellites it will require more time and thus the robotics on that probe must be able to act autonomously! no remote control! when proven that it can work autonomously you can easily reuse these technologies elsewhere! Mariana's trench any one? harvesting heavy water. benefits are immense!

at least the Indians are bold enough t use their brains to do something on their own, hapa kenya hata barabara we have to bring in the chinans - the greeks and the romans were building roads as recently as 4 years just before the birth of Jesus christ (pbuh).

all in all this is claimed to be the cheapest mission to mars, they must have done something different - and that something might prove to be very beneficial to them.

ni kuogopa! uoga ndio tumejaza hapa! how many people here can go on a boat trip let alone a space trip (i know it was unmanned).
people even fear going to central or fear uchawi ya wakamba! fear the ocean! fear bandits in north eastern... fear graves, fear the dead, fear! fear! fear! fear!

on cost... there was a statement that was made once - Americans spent millions of dollars to invent a pen that would write in 0 gravity in space while russians used pencils!
