My apologies, it was not meant to be insulting, but perhaps a reflection of the perception that exists about our armed forces.

As for checking whether soldiers in the Commonwealth pay taxes or not: this is not relevant. We have MPs earning 10 times their Commonwealth peers, so how will this help in any way? We have huge expenditures in Govt which need to be funded, by any and all means.

The people have spoken, albeit ignorantly. KDF personnel enjoy minimal fundamental freedoms n rights. Taxing the little alcohol taken in there sounds childish.

KDF is the only institution left which Kenyans have faith in...Any attempt to interfere with the status quo will have untold constituencies. Kenyans should stand united against this move and by show of solidarity move to the streets to protest that move...Let us not wait for KDF to demonstrate as this will be the final nail in a state that has already been declared a failed state. As best as I know KDF pays duty on vehicles and other stuff of that value...So what will be taxed...Alcohol!!! It seems this government is thinking with its *&^%!

@magigi kuwa mpole, otherwise utapata pressure bure. This govt is here to stay. Hakuna haja ya kwenda street.

On the KDF I also think that KRA needs to come slowly!

Kuwa mpole. They have just been told to pay 16% VAT. They still enjoy remission of the full Excise duty payable on alcohol which for beer is Ksh. 70.00 per litre. Net change in price should be no more than 10bob.

Still even before this many of them used to take beer outside their barracks, in clubs, away from barracks while the AFCO products were being smuggled and sold out of the barracks to non-deserving persons, in wine and spirit shops across the country. Abuse of the privilege for lack of a better word.

This alcohol tax thing is really bugging you right? I am not against the taxation of it. Actually, even with the VAT the alcohol will still be way cheaper than where you buy yours. What I am seeing is that you misunderstand the KDF in terms of what they do. If you knew what they stand for then you wouldn't be yapping like a layman. Talk to those who are in the "system" so to speak and you will learn a lot. Just to "pasua mbarika kidogo". While "civilians" were grappling with Mututho and his alcohol laws the military had its own version for years that is strictly adhered to. Misconceptions have been there about the military for awhile now. I think it is time you tried to understand the people to whom you entrust the protection of your freedoms.

Thank-you marko, where is the like button?
