@Jus Blazin, On Thika highway on the inner most lanes, what is the minimum speed limit? Is it 80kph or 100kph. I was discussing with someone,i said it's 100kph,he said its 80kph,which is which? Coz if its 80kph,then what's trucks' speed limit? Less than 80kph? I've always thought it to be 80kph.

I can't talk categorically about Thika Highway. All I know is the Max speed limit across the country is 110kph. And besides, I think the road signs show max speed limit of a given section and not minimum.

From the comment here not many went through Kenyan driving schools. Thats where speed issue is discussed. Limit for small cars, trucks, pickups, psvs etc.

@richdad, The question is more of the speed limits on Thika highway, not the speed limits for trucks, cars, buses etc. I don't think there is any driving school that will teach anyone the speed limits on each n every kenyan road.

If the speed limit for Thika highway is 100kph, what is the minimum speed on the inner most lane? Doing 50kph on that lane could be as dangerous as doing 140kph.
@richdad acha maneno ya driving school, hii maneno ya Thika highway wayajua?

He obviously never understood the discussion. Makes one wonder if the only school he ever went to is a driving school.

Unless otherwise indicated, the speed limits in Kenya are:

Dual-carriage highways - passenger cars = 110km/h; commercial vehicles = 80km/h; vehicles with trailers = 65km/h

Single carriage highways - passenger cars = 80km/h; commercial vehicles = 80km/h; vehicles with trailers = 65km/h

BTW: that idea of 110km/h was borrowed without thought from the British 70mph for motorways! Previously it was 80/65/45 until J. J. Kamotho pushed the adjustment in parliament...

Was that law set in 1970? It's time it was revised!

Question: Where do these cops stand on Thika road to stop speeding cars? If I'm on the middle lane how will the dude stop me?

BBI will solve it

The cops use the spiked barriers on the highway. very notorious at juja, where i think a cop with the speed gun will note the reg' no. of vehicles "overspeeding" and the mahungry at the barrier will block the vehicle as the driver slows and tries to manouvre around the barriers. makubafu hao!!
best time to speed is early in the morning or at night! though a bit dangerous coz of poor visibility

Totally ridiculous, we build highways to enhance faster movement within safety parameters. The highway should have minimum speed parameters of about 110KPH and max speed of say 140KPH. The service lane limits can stay at 80KPH. The speed limit issue was there because pedestrian crossings were not complete now they are, surely if you are on that highway you will certainly be drining above 100KPH. Idiotic cops now want to go collect easy money coz certainly 4 in 5 cars will at one point be moving past 110KPH. They should bring that gadget to Mombasa road, the 50KPH for trucks and 80KPH is very much needed there......trucks and private car drivers went rogue a while ago and they are dismembering and killing kenyans who have no demarcated pedestrian crossing to save them again....Stupid greedy policemen looking for bribes when they could use the same gadgets to save innocent Kenyans and collect fines which are deserved..

Kausha, you might be on to something there regarding the fines. Instead of cops going on a go slow due to poor pay, the gament should consider using traffic cops as commission agents and pay 10% of gross fines into a pool that is distributed quarterly to the police force as a bonus. That should kill the story of bribes, PAP!
