Diploma holders tend to develop sharper technical competencies in their study areas than degree holders. People with degrees plus a professional or post-grad cert will tell you the professional or post-grad certs are what actually gets them to an interview and finally to the job. In fact, the trend is that those who are engaged in some community of practice or have attended powerful conferences within or outside the country qualify better and get the job done. But why is there a problem with degrees in Kenya? it is the quality of those graduates. Most of them cant even articulate anything in straight and good english. All they can do is sing all the subjects covered in the lecture rooms.

A technician knows how to tighten a nut while an engineer knows why the nut is tightened by the given amount and not more and not less.

If you employ a engineer and expect her to be tightening nuts all day, you will fail.
