It's in NSE's best interest to come up with more products that will boost its revenues. While i'm not for short selling right now given our volatile markets, margin trading can be introduced say in the next 5years or so as well as commodities and futures!

We need margin trading. At times forex appeals more to me because I can better leverage my money. How do you see futures working in Kenya?I ask this because contracts obligations are not really upheld or respected as they should. Commodities can help especially with planning and hopefully control inflation to an extent. Also what about other derivaties?I think risk mitigation and management options are also lacking.
Uncertainty is certain.Let go

What financial products can we as Kenya develop to fit our current and future markets?

ETFs!!!

True Tracker funds can actually work at this very moment they have the simplicity of equities and diversifications of unit trusts.Maybe we get an additional -index that is a total return index rather than the priceindex we have this will reduce the tracking errors...

..My biggest problem with the CMA and NSE is that there is so little investor education going around so many people would have been buying fixed income securities if they just knew how the market works but they dont...they need to up their game on this we should be way far than where we are at the moment.

Shorting is only illegal on the NSE if you are caught. Its been prevalent since the KenGen IPO and CDSC ushered in the new error.

Anyway, imho we just need to have as many stocks listing as possible. I for example think that rather than forcing foreign firms to find 20/30% local partners, we should instead create an additional section for them to list on at the NSE.

We urgently need to bring the so-called OTC market into a more transparent exchange-who bought Suntra shares during them days and was stuck with them for ages. Or even missing out on CIC because you had to open an account with a Sacco et al.
