2012 - the year when the airline industry dived into the pit... IATA gave a serious warning back in March 2012 about airlines going bankrupt by end of 2012 early 2013. I expect to see airlines getting nationalized next year around the world! As usual the tax payer will be left holding the poopbag...

Kingfisher Airlines... Bailed out by gubberment...

The indebted airline’s shares soared 20% on Monday to 12.97 rupees after the Indian government said on Friday it would open up some sectors, including airlines, to foreign investment. Foreign investors will now be able to own up to 49% in India’s airlines.

Kingfisher owes millions of dollars to lenders, lessors, suppliers, staff and taxes to the government, as its aggressive expansion plans clashed with a downturn in the global aviation industry and rising fuel costs, though the airline has been loss-making since it was founded in 2005, when it was called Deccan Air. It has recently scaled back flights and ended its low-cost operations to cut costs.

Meanwhile KQ...

Testing again sub 13/- VWAP closed at 12.95 today. Let's see if 12.30/- will be broken or defended...

12.30/- was broken down all the way to 11.50/- but since then volume has spiked and support seems to be coming in. It is seen more clearly on the 2yr chart. A bounce from here will target 13.50 - 14.00/-

Will be interesting to see if KQ retains the dubious title of being the worst stock performer in 2012 and 2013...

With the entry of Easy Jet aka Fast Jet in the Kenyan market KQ will retain the title!
