What work does Commission for Higher Education (CHE) do? Such kind of stuff should not be allowed to happen. CHE should specify maximum class sizes. That would be one of the easiest rules to enforce. A practical-based class should have between 30 and 45 students. A theory class 40 to 65 max. The fee they charge (Approx. 80k per student - parallel) is more than enough to sustain such classes and turn out a handsome profit! As for JAB students, they are admitted according to available resources - and they are not admitted in such huge numbers!

UON has also messed up it's name when it comes to MBA. Hundreds of students and absolutely no control - people hire under grads to do their CATs and assignments! The lecturer doesn't even know who is who! Most graduates can't even write a proper research paper. There are adverts all over for "assistance" with projects. Something needs to be urgently done.

I will not even start on the so called private universities!

I have read with keen interest about Kenyatta University and the immediate former VC.
Kenyatta University from a goverment supported university to a self funded institution . All this was made possible by one lady Prof Mugenda. I don't know her personally but she has certainly left the institution better than she found it .
She may not be perfect , who is anyway?
I have hired many graduates from KU and they have not disappointed me. The likes of Nick Ladu Winston Ayaya and many more.
What is this crap that she has left behind a business not an educational institution. In Kenya you are dammed if you do and you are still dammed if you don't . Going to Harvard , MIT , Yale and the like you pay a fortune. Universities are not charity institutions. KU today is not running around with a begging bowl .
She leaves behind a very solid university with a fully fledged business innovation & incubation centre in liaison with Manu Chandaria. Running a hotel in North coast that was dead for years is great . Their students now have a place to go for internships not to mention the employment creation .
Well KU has produced serious people who are playing their part in this country and beyond . Let us give credit where due . Professor Mugenda has done very well.
To you the critic , self appointed fault finder , what have you achieved ? It is very easy to throw barbs at others from the comfort of your seat and keyboard ? If you really have time on your hands go help Uchumi & Mumias. KU is doing just fine.
Good Prof . All the best as you retire and as a good sign of Good Corporate Governance I am glad you declined the Ksh 100M send off . Take only what your final dues are and go in peace and be proud of what you have done.

Parliament has asked the National Treasury to immediately allocate Sh1.6 billion to Kenyatta University Hospital to trigger the release of undisbursed loan owed to the Chinese government to operationalise the training facility.

The House says Sh656,682,2017 is needed for dry run budget and Sh1,060,490,567 for the soft run of Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital considering that the facility has been lying idle and the university is currently facing financial constraints.

“The project implementation was to take five years from 2011 at a cost of Sh8.8 billion. Two years after the intended operational year (2016), it is still idle with an amount of Yuan 142,862,209 (Sh1.37 billion) undisbursed,” Ms Sabina Chege, who chairs the National Assembly’s Committee on Health said in a report.

Build with which money yet the university is insolvent.
