@mungaits i think its a wake up call for us to build our own brands in all areas of the economy (duplicate the equity/bidco experience). The market is there...

@sparkly, thats very true. For a minute while getting lost through the mall i thought i was in some European city, most of the shops are foreign brands!

But with the number of customers abound, now i know in Kenya guys have chums.

Separately, who owns some of these high end malls? (Galleria, Westgate, junction, capital centre etc) just curious

ati 'any cooked chicken piece that waits unserved for 90 minutes has to be dumped'.....why not just sell at say half price and they will be shocked by the stampede..
If you are an eagle don't hang around with chickens; chickens don't fly....

From a business perspective, these guys will make all their money back in no time. They have opened their stores during the holiday period, so all the kids will want to go back with stories of KFC chicken. Secondly, Kenyans have the peculiar habit of wanting to 'get with the program!' What with the shock horror when you tell someone you've not been to Galleria/KFC/Galileo Lounge/Nakumatt Ridgeways!

Thus the business owners place a high introductory price to take advantage of the hype, a strategy called market skimming! By the time the hype dies down, KFC will have made all their money back and they can therefore reduce prices to be at par or slightly higher that competitors!

So anything half-way trendy that I bring back from the US and market in Kenya, I can make money with? Even greasy garbage?

One would think that during these "inflationary" times that buying more local goods, rather than imports, would make more sense. I guess the answer is to "build local, brand international."

Excuse me while I look out the window for the next scam...

Best,

Hill

Someone can make a killing by opening a colon-cleansing health clinic one block away... One of us enterprising Wazuans needs to take heed and do it... Bran muffins and enemas... clean out that grease.

But seriously, that might not be a bad business idea. It works in the US... it's healthy, and for some, great fun.

Not speaking from experience though.
