We already have excess power so what's the hurry to bring in all that capacity. Next year is an election year my friend. You don't have to ask where the millions donated every weekend are coming from. Dividend drought for the shareholders. Can someone kindly explain to me what Compensating tax is. That is also new to me I'm also very curious to know about this compensation tax Robbery right in front of our eyes: 1. Compensating tax of 43% arose if a company paid dividends out of untaxed capital gains (eg from sale of land). 2. Compensating tax was replaced with 5% capital gains tax on property a couple of years ago. Management owes an explanation: 1. Why they are paying compensating tax after it was abolished? 2. Where is the +5B dividend declared or distributed other than from operational profits? Life is short. Live passionately.

In my opinion, a jumbo cash call by any company in any jurisdiction is always a big red flag for one reason or the other. It implies that either the management was napping on the job or is a distress sign of imminent trouble or both - take your pick. Kengen fits the template too. It doesn't matter the reason that is being used to justify the cash call, the actual reason is never pretty particularly for the shareholder. Expecting a such a company to again issue out a substantial chunk (through dividends) of the money raised after wringing/milking the shareholders to the last penny was and is a tall order to say the least. By and large, a dividend cut was to be expected, a total shut-out on the other hand says that there are more skeletons to be unearthed here in due time. The main purpose of the stock market is to make fools of as many people as possible.

Avoid GoK owned/controlled firms. *I hold KenRe as my sole significant GoK-owned holding BUT I will bail out if need be if I think the management/board is acting shady! I have justified investing in KenRe as a fan of Warren Buffett, cash holdings and complex business perhaps not as prone to straightforward looting like at KQ BUT never say never* Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Kengen's market capitalization as of close of trading 5/25/2016 is 14.29 B. After rights issue is complete new capital of 28.8 B will have been added so capitalization should be 14.29 + 28.8 = 42.09 B.
However, If hypothetically after rights start trading and price is at KES 2/= then capitalization will be ~6.6 B shares * 2 = 13.2 B. My question is where does the around ~30 B cash vanish to? Nobody has made this money so no wealth was transferred. Isn't that like money vanishing into a black hole?
ignore that Govts 20 B is debt convertion. Can't add capitalisation to Shareholders funds. current amount of shareholders is quite high, I think 60B or so. At the end of the rights 28.8B will be added to shareholders funds. Shareholder funds will be about KES 180 Bn after the rights issue This is a tragedy. Based on analysis I will wait out the storm and buy postissuance I second you in this man obi Post #348 May 26th HF 90,000 ABP 3.83; KQ 414,100 ABP 7.92; MTN 23,800 ABP 6.45
