Universal suffrage just like it's attendant catch phrases if democracy and human rights are the valves that serve to restrain Africa's development to its full potential beside our own subscription to attendant imperialist and malignant dictatorship. Look to Bolshevic and Maoist revolutions and even pre 1945 USA on how to leap forward without suffrage for all.

Try not to be taken in by propaganda. There were no leaps in China or Russia.

Hence the argument fails.

There was nothing but mass murder and starvation in the Bolshevik and Maoist revolutions. Stupid experimentation with disastrous results. Africa's development potential has not been realized in the last 10,000 years with or without universal suffrage.

Most organisations have 6 months probation. How long do you propose his probation to be?

In what way is Nairobi county similar to most organizations?

I think we need to be very open minded and willing to take a proactive approach that also chooses the 'let's work with the leaders we have' approach.

That way, we'll save time and resources.

Wate Wangu syndrome

As long as any city has hawkers in the doorsteps of banks and beggars with their whole clan, you will continue waiting.

Sonko has failed and there's no need to wait for the results. They are there for all to see.

Give this watu wangu guy another six months and hawkers shall be at KICC and he shall still have his rescue team with findio removing trash at night.

Tycho, it's also ok to admit that you made a mistake 5 months ago. Admitting mistakes makes a man grow stronger.

Me thinks these guys are setting up Sonko to fail because of his lone-ranger approach. He is street smart but you need the other smarts more to run a city... If he doesn't play ball soon with the Jubilee heads, he will be lucky to survive impeachment leave alone re-election in 2022.

BBI will solve it

Yes, I made a mistake of thinking Sonko would make Nairobi better, or my personal lot better. I'm responsible.

I've also tried to think about the matter and I realize that no matter who the governor is there's a responsibility that I have to discharge as an individual. And how I choose to discharge the responsibility matters.

Politically for me, Sonko is still my choice for governor, but the delivery of the political promise is another matter altogether. And I must be alive to that fact.

It could be that Sonko is appearing to fail because the level of anarchy brought by his policies is unexpectedly high even in terms of structure... And the challenge could be one of structural adjustment.

Or, there could be political infighting or sabotage...

Or Sonko is plainly stupid and incompetent.

How would we know the truth?

As usual Tycho your answers make me rethink my thoughts.

It is true that given the state of the city before Sonko, one would not be faulted for thinking that there could be something better.

My view given my personal knowledge of the man, true or untrue, was that he was the worst alternative.

My view hasn't changed.

But I can see why mama mboga who has nothing, can look to him as alternative.

I'm thinking of the 100 licenses that one has to have to operate a kiosk in Nairobi. I created a company in another country and it cost me 1000 bob. All I did was go to the city hall, was asked for the name, paid the fee and left with a company fully paid with all city fees combined. Try that in Kenya and you have to talk to a lawyer.

So yes, I can see that.

So the question is. Is the problem in Nairobi Sonko? Or our systems so baaaad that we are willing to be shafted by anyone because the last man shafted us too?

Are we really voting the best candidates? Or is it a case of losing hope in our society so much so that it's any candidate than that one?

@alma, the other day, I met a teacher who reminded me of the difference between the heart and the mind.

For the mind, there are always reasons and upsets. And while we need the mind- for what?- the heart is the solution to all problems.

The heart of the Kenyan citizen, is corrupted. And this corruption is good for the system. It is the fuel of the nation-state.

It's a matter of statecraft and principles of statecraft that are wanting.

Statecraft on the other hand depends on personal honor and integrity, goodwill, and action that is entrenched in a deep understanding of human nature.

We must first change the quality of citizenship to create better systems.

If you don't know then know today that Sonko was never meant to develop Nairobi. Ask me why another day.

Explain the increase in the single business permit (UBP) moved from 20k to 40k in a span of new governor getting into office in Sept and now? Now those “watu wake” watajua why Kenyans hate matatu guys... the impunity is real and it has just been brought to city hall by the grand sheriff matatu operator.... all those having dreams of starting business the shock awaits you... from the KRA collector, NCC matatu guy and his goons, the money u have to pay to this garment for no show will give u BP🤕🤢🤢😱....

I figure Igathe bolted when he saw the “eating plan”🤯🤯😱
I found meaningful work🤓

On top of that add the fire license fee, outdoor advertising and they have introduced cess fee as well. For the town dwellers, cess is a fee charged by local authorities on agricultural produce or natural resources where they are produced. In return, the county government boosts infrastructure in those regions.

But today if you are caught delivering your broilers in the CBD, they will charge you 100/- cess per bird. Much higher than your profit margin. Doesn't matter you farm in Thika. Joho has introduced the same for tea in Mombasa. The only reason tea goes to Mombasa is because the auction is held there plus the port. But the idiot wants a piece of the cake as well.

Can it be auctioned in Nairobi, be loaded onto containers and delivered to ICD for SGR transportation to the Port?

Sonko "chooses" Simon Mbugua as Deputy Governor....

https://www.the-star.co....mcas-ask-sonko_c1713757

Quote:
MCAs want Governor Mike Sonko to come out clear on the role of EALA MP Simon Mbugua at City Hall. They have accused him of running the show since Polycarp Igathe resigned as Deputy Governor.
