The Matatu system is the African public system of transport. Very efficient and you can hardly get stranded anywhere. What there is is indiscipline, which can be forced, as many members have postulated here. It is a system that has worked in hundreds of cities, and I will still use the Indian example, which is purely third world just like us. This system only needs control, like we see in Dar, or Kigali, or Addis, or Bombay, or Hydrabad, or Khartoum, or Cairo, or Jo'berg, etc. Heck, I even noticed an upcoming Matatu industry (shared bus-trucks) in Washington DC, of all places. Murchr, yes commuters did try to use trains. See what one Johnstone Katuku experienced Quote:I tried to be clever and decided to use the train to Syokimau. The funny thing about this mess is that the only person who can fix this is Sonko. He has a lot of political clout. I noticed no one called him elitist like Kidero. There's a problem in Nairobi and it needs long term thought with short term fixes along the way. Only Sonko right now can fix that. 1. Work with the satellite governors to come up with a real BRT system. It should include Kenya Railways, large capacity saccos, everyone....Not red paint. 2. Increase parking fees for all vehicles including private and matatus. 3. Upgrade those terminus that are quarter finished to National stadium standards with toilets security etc and capacity 4. Work with Matiangi to tame the indiscipline with Matatu Saccos. 5. Effect the ban between 9am to 4pm 6. Work with Saccos to have them drop and pick passengers only. I have seen those buses at Kencom that implement that and don't see the kind of hell that goes on on Tom Mboya street. Let them comply or work with Matiangi to revoke their licenses. Those are short term measures that will have the support of all Kenyans. We don't like Matatu culture. But Sonko handed these madmen a blank check to ringa just because he failed to plan and was banking on NYS buses....And the support of Murchr. Thieves are not good people. Tumeelewana?

Matatus were turning from globe roundabout therefore the build up starts there and it goes to nairobi university roundabout, so another gridlock along the uhuru highway. At the end of the day only BRT can safe the nrb traffic but how do you control those 14 seaters from upcountry? Life is an endless adventure

So, lets think this through. We have tried banning psvs in CBD twice now, both times failed. So, say we ban private vehicles in the CBD. What would happen? Business opportunities are like buses,there's always another one coming

People are talking about BRT but don't mention BRT means that new roads/lanes complete with designated busstops have to be built(refer to Dar). Others are talking about light rail but know very well that Ethiopia had to build the infrastructure first for it to be a success. There is no shortcut about it and no amount of procrastination from government(Nairobi county govt. included) will make the problem go away.That figtree termini should have been established somewhere in githurai, Muthurwa should be pushed huko saika(just as they did with Marikiti) Railways termini should be somewhere huko Bomas/Rongai. In short what i am trying to say is that, in the future no matatus should operate within 16 kms radius of CBD. Only rapid transport systems should. My two cents Dumb money becomes dumb only when it listens to smart money
