Is there someone who can tell us what is happening at the Nation. Today they broke the good news that the four kenyans jailed in S.Sudan had been released. http://www.nation.co.ke/...5294-fcosbiz/index.html
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has just posted the following on their official handle. @ForeignOfficeKE "Reports appearing in a section of the Kenyan press alleging that Ministry of Foreign Affairs PS Monica Juma has travelled to Juba to secure release of four Kenyans held in South Sudan jail is false."

I hear there is drama at Kenya Times, sorry, Nation newspapers. All the independent columnists have resigned. #NMGexodus.
Mutuma Mathiu and Tom Mshindi have earned a place in history. Taking the biggest media empire in East and central Africa and reducing it to a sycophantic mouth-piece for the government. It takes a special breed of men to do that. Its like going to Alliance high school as the principal and the following year there are 100 Es. You need to be a special type of loser to achieve that.

Kissing ......... Does independence of the media mean attacking the govt? Where Ndii attends nasa rallies and bashes the govt and then spits venom against govt in his column every weekend? Or maina kiai and his caustic column? Is that what you call independence?

Not all but many (8). Its a breath of fresh air, the paper was going down with those columnists, its time to get a fresh crop of writers. I've longed for this "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. The problem is you hope when you should fear & fear when you should hope: - Jesse Livermore .

Or maina kiai and his caustic column? Is that what you call induependence? I'll miss Gabrielle Lynch and Nic Cheeseman Those guys calling themselves independent are just anti-govt article writers. I only sometimes read Kiai among them. Dolan can't say much. Just read Makokha or Kegoro's articles, NMG was becoming an anti govt article writers' haven!

But NMG has never been free from state interference. There's this time Mutahi Ngunyi was kicked out He had changed style and was writing articles critical of a co-principal in the grand collusion govt known for fighting for democracy. The said father of democracy whispered something to the higher ups and Ngunyi lambad lolo(that's how you use lamba lolo? )

There were days I wouldn't miss a copy of the SN but not any more thanks to too much political opinion at the expense of facts.
Actually my two best columnists are Mutuma Mathiu and Gerry Loughran...everyone else is needlessly combative or pretends to be an expert.

They now need to weed out the numerous fake political commentators on TV.
