@Mwanahisa i got burned once by Kenya Re but i'm seriously looking at it with a PE of 4.42 its less risk since the mandatory concessions extended to 2015 i might reap what i sow this time around...however they operate in Ivory Coast how much is this a threat to their earnings?

The problem with kenya re is the gvt interference and it will never match private companies until the inefficient gvt fully pulls out.

Jubilee operates in Ivory coast too & look at their performance. I think the problem with Kenya re is government. They are actually still carrying the effects of the Nyamu era.

Anytime this month....but not in May of course...i did some research on Kenya Re and its not a dying horse as most people would say and it might suprise but i'm always cautious with insurance firms apart from JBL a claim can come from no where and ruin everything.

Well, it is still stuck at 10 - only 5% above its IPO price. What nonsense is this?

Did you say slumber? I would call it a stupor. And it is not waking up any time soon. The damn thing is comatose....

Hopefully the appointment of the MD is the first step towards getting up. Or has it just opened one eye and then promptly gone back to sleep?

I think the 2010 results will tell us if the confirmation of the MD was prudent.

In that case then I would bet that the results will be good. Otherwise it would be mighty bad PR to appoint the chap and then release bad results shortly after the appointment.

The problem with Kenya Re are not its fundamentals. We all know that. Lakini, we are just not convinced that the share price will go up. Ata with good results. It's just one of those companies that are somewhat cursed. MD needs to get his chopper to Loliondo soonest.

Now compare this excuse of a share to Scangroup. Almost similar EPS @ 2.58 for Scan and a dividend of 0.7. OK, Scan has issued a bonus. Big deal - the shareholders still owned those reserves, distributed or not.

See the market's reaction. Scan trades at more than 5 times the price of KenRe. Now that's a s**y counter to be in, although it's not for me either.

There will always be a few people who know value when they see it, even when the rest of the market does not. @19 not too long ago a lot of folks on this forum were also "laughing" at KCB. Who's laughing now?

Some interest is picking up. Bid volumes increasing and a pivot being established at the 10/= level.
