From the lunchtime interview in ktn, zain C.E.O mentioned that the move is more of a long-term and they will be capitalising on the economies of scale from bharti.Meanwhile,as Safcom tries to figure whats next let me switch to zain and enjoy the benefits.

Question still remains is the move by zain sustainable having in mind that inter connectivity rate still remains at 4.22,I think scom should concentrate more on data where they have the upper hand.

2.21 is the new interconnect charge

Just been thinking about it.

e.g at 3 bob a minute across networks, how long do you think the typical phone call now lasts.

2.21 interconnect

Retain 7.79 and of this pay KRA its dues.

It might just be sustaining.

Interconnection tariff went down from 4.21 to 2.21. After deducting dealer's commission and operating expenses zain will not make a cent. My take is that they are trying to ensnare many customers to reach a critical mass where they can make money on zain-zain calls. If safcom responds by cutting saf-saf calls zain will be kwisha, just like it always has been.

I like you thinking Sparkly... Hope Safcom strategy are reading this..

If Safcom cuts all Saf-Saf call charges to, let say, 1 bob a minute... Zain kwisha..

As usual Safcom will not react immediately. They will wait for see how Kenyans react. This however, is the biggest test they have ever faced since tariff wars started sometime back.

but hey! its a free country if you think using sufferincon will help you ati coz you ploughing back the money in Kenya, feel free. as for mi, i topd up a soc jana, made my normal calls and still bado kuna pesa nyingi ya kutumia leo. thats all that matters.

I think once you factor in costs, its not sustainable. If i was Safcom, I'd just chill for a couple of weeks and see if Zain's network can sustain the initial jubilation

Ni kubaya.....!!.Some months ago, i bought Yu lines for the entire family. The lady used it a couple days and went back to her old Safcom ways. She's been a die hard safcom customer but she finally threw in the towel.Moments ago,she proudly called from her new Zain line....i see groom for safcom and who cares whether Zain makes money not?.Lemme enjoy it as long as it lasts.....

BTW,if number portability is not around the corner,Zain should consider an "i moved" service just like YU and aggressively market it"....or free SmSes to Safcom numbers just to inform your friends you moved...smile .
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

To feel like I am part of the new Zain movement, I will buy a new phone not the Nokia 1110 or whatever that I have been using.
