@proverb. U ar saying that come full yr results in November the all important operating margin will be low leading to another sell off. Is that so ?

Mr Naikuni has never ever presented the probability of doing things different all those years..his focus is marketing and PR.. so eager to get 1 more customer and therefore will not dare charge for services offered at profitable margins..
ergo lethargic staff, waning staff morale, pathetic service..(as cheap as the pricing)..tooting how "bright" the dept working on hedging is!!..just wondering..what costs were incurred in setting up and eventual shut down of non profitable domestic routes..

could the ceo be spending money he does not have to impress people he does not even care about tryin to deal with competition?

this isn't fair to especially Long Term Shareholders..

KQ has to seriously work on staff morale and professionalism of the cabin crew. Some of them behave as though they are working in a local hotel. Somehow, you do not see the pride some other crew have. Someone has to move KQ a notch higher than where they are currently. Any one with experience of ET? I have used it about four times and found they are good. The greatest service though, was in JAL

@proverb. Really liked that story about atchison stock. Applause . The devil is in the details. On KQ. I really relate with the weaknesses the management displays and the operating margins are worrying. Airline stocks are just abit to risky. I think with a more aggresive management the operating margins can be increased and would make this stock much more desirable.

@ Stocks'guru':-

-KQ has about 30 aircrafts.
-On average one aircraft may have upto 4 rotations (trips) a day.
-Crew operating these aircrafts have FTL (Flight Time Limits) thus one aicraft may have a dedicated workforce of upto 15 staff per rotation
-KQ is within accepted International staffing levels for an airline of it's size
And lastly kQ needs mor cabin/ground services crew thus they are still hiring....

An important consistent trend about commercial aviation is that it is a fiercely competitive and highly volatile industry, in which fortunes shift continuously. As the drive towards a free, converging and global market gathers momentum, competition within the airline industry is expected to intensify. Increasingly, open skies are therefore likely to impact on yields, and extraordinary profits will increasingly be an exception. Given this potentially turbulent environment, the key to survival in the industry lies in whether an airline is able to clearly anticipate the patterns of change coming, the underlying forces driving these changes, and above all the ability to align its strategies to respond to a changing business and aero-political environment.

So is Naikuni and co, cut out for this, well i don't know can't say i have a pulse on the business so jury is out on this, but that said, i have held KQ for a long time 6 years almost(purely sentimental reasons)am a flight buff, i know nothing bout the business and well i don't intend to, if i burn so be it.

Someone mentioned EK and maybe that's a wish to far, but like i have consistently said in different forums, yes we have the educated guys in our workforce, but unless we have critical thinkers then some of these sentiments will never change this solely lacks in majority of our companies.

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.

Africa attracts growing attention from international airlines

British Business Monitor, 18 August 2010

Africa is attracting growing interest from international carriers as International Air Transport Association (IATA) data show that flying capacity to and from Africa went up by 8.6% year-on-year in the 12 months through June, the Financial Times reported.

The growth in the African air transport market was second only to the Middle East.

IATA predicts that in the next three years the number of passengers on flights to and from Africa will increase at an annual rate of 6.5%, which would make the continent one of the fastest growing markets in the world.

True, I have to 1st figure out that I do not lose money in the KQ transaction. On KCB, the decision is based on the fact that in the next 6 months, I see more growth in the KCB stock that KQ

@Gordon Gekko. That is totally uncalled for and offensive. You should be respectful. She (and/or her family and friends) might be visitors or participants on this forum and if I am offended by the comment, they will definately be insulted.

GG, tried looking for photos nimekosa. But in my attempts, I came up with a list of best 'leaders' as voted for by secondary school students. Some of the people on that list will make you laugh! www.mbegutrust.com/default2.php?active_page_id=361 Apparently Johnstone Muthama is more popular than the Son of Man

@RO, many thanks for correcting me. What I thought was light banter could be misconstrued. I apologise to the Capt, indeed I am a great admirer of both herself and her dad, having been flown by both of them on different occasions. My apologies also to offended wazuans. I have restructured my post, but can't do the same for those who quoted my post. Wazua please forgive me and assist.

KQ is a buy at the current prices...the current prices have not factored in the good half year results....after tge half year results we will see traction in this stock...i might even dump my Scom shares and add more KQ....
