Sad to see that inspite it all, Nation reports that Safaricom is only firming market grip. I remember once musing about the power of dominant rivals. Kazi ngumu kweli...

Its closest competitor, Zain, had its market share decline to 9 per cent from 10 per cent in 2008 and 16 per cent in 2007. Telkom’s Orange brand commands 4 per cent market share followed by the latest entrant into the market, yu, with 1 per cent.

I tend to think that these statistics are outdated .......Yu is making a firm entry especially in 2009 and now ...may be ahead of Zain and orange...I also ask, why call safaricom to safaricom at 8bob when you can call YU to safariom at 6bob?

also think that the report might be outdated. it is likely that YU and Zain have gained on market share following their high profile campaigns from around November 2009. question is whether they can sustain such campaigns. i am finding myself calling more often on Zain and YU. i mainly use Safcom to access the net.

yu needs to do much better in providing support for their clients eg airtime, customer care etc. these are things that makes safaricom tick

orange wins the prize for worst customer service hands down. one is kept waiting forever on end with the promise that 'the next customer service agent will be available in less than 3 minutes'!!

Couldn't resist so picture this...
I'm at Orange Shop in Westlands at about 6.30pm in the evening. 3 attendants on duty including cashier. All look somewhat tired, long day and all; and only 3 people in queue - 2 asian, 1 african. I was not on the queue.

And a young West African guy is purchasing an iPhone, has his card ran, and machine can't print receipt, AND HE GOES BALLISTIC. Starts shouting, asks another male attendant to come help lady, "I can't wait. I can't wait. She's already ran my card - help her. It's taking too long. Why why??? No no.."

So we all look at each other in bated breath speechless. And no attendant can calm him down. And the Orange staff very professional but couldn't help thinking - what a life!"

@Kulchaz,,,,No-frills could be the reason why Yu is the cheapest meaning if they provide more customer support services, they won't be able to maintain such low prices. Anybody seen their balance sheet or cash flow statements lately? I'm dying to lay my eyes on them.Too good to be true for a novice.
when i see my purple, you see it not!

Do u believe that yu will very soon dorminate the market? read this

http://www.standardmedia...14&j=&m=&d=

a quote from the article.....

"Kunal said there would be no charge for yu to yu calls in the bundles, so the only thing one needs to worry about is their phone battery running out." or its just a marketing strategy?
