The cost of living is expected to fall significantly after the government commissioned a new power plant expected to cut electricity bills by 30 per cent.

In a move aimed at reducing the cost of doing business and attracting investors, President Uhuru Kenyatta said he expected the reduction in tariffs to take effect at the end of this month.

The reduction in bills is expected as the country moves away from use of expensive heavy fuel to generate electricity in favour of the cheaper and clean geothermal power.

Manufacturers are expected to pass the benefit of cheaper power to consumers by lowering the cost of essential goods such as maize flour and sugar.

“Take my word that the cost of goods will come down and this will lead to a lower cost of living for all Kenyans,” said President Kenyatta at a function after the launch of the 140-megawatt geothermal power plant at Ol Karia in Naivasha Friday.

You are quoting too much nonsense from politicians.
Could you explain why the bills have gone up with verifiable facts.

Read the second article or take your bullshit elsewhere...

@maka let me translate for @segemia in our mothertongue. They don't discuss such thing at kameme you know.

Current cost of 1 unit for the average household (>50kwh p.m) is kes. 18.50. Before Kibaki left we were at 13/kwh. We were promised bills would reduce by 30%.

Most people believed the lie only to be disappointed later. Some of our friends are still clinging to the lie.

Boss, that is a natural occurrence like the eclipse or comet. The unusual power bill hire occurs every 5 years... Your guess is as good as mine... (hint - ask Uhuru, Ruto, Moi, Raila, Kibaki and Kalonzo).

Then we shouldn't complain about such things if we know where the problem lies....(To the guys complaining).

The problem is us. And the politicians know it, that's why they are never concerned.

BBI will solve it

If I remember well, the independent power producers were signed into bidding contracts by Kibaki Gova for 25 years. The reimbursables were to vary depending on a number of variables including fuel costs etc.

Now, even if we add 5k MW cheaply to national grid without having high end consumers absorbing the energy, the costs will still continue to rise as the variable costs are decided bt Kenyans- and Kenyans with such access look more at what they get out of the deal than overall policy.

Maybe we are even Financing 8/8/17.

You guys have it good, my average power bill for forever has always been 8,500 - 11,000 PM. I generally just pay and move on.
